exactly.  it's adding the mental aspect with the physical.  intelligent people tend to gravitate toward the mental orgasm, so to speak.

Have recently developed an addiction to Munchkin, and learning to play Magic at the moment, oh my poor wallet, no wonder i'm always flat broke!

I still have that boxed set somewhere - those were the days!

Status: offline 		I think we love the whole sf and fantasy genre because it questions ideas, and experiments with aspects of society that most people assume are fixed.  After all, don't most people want to imagine a world where our desires are mainstreat?  Or, at least, to wonder how that would affect the world.

Me too! I have loved scifi and horror since i can remember. Jelly baby anyone? I have drooled over the Enterprise crew, Nick, Barnabus, Quentin, all the Doctors, the Vampire lords, Klingons,  Angel, Starbuck, Piper, Prue, and Duncan MacCloud of the Clan MacCloud,attending Pon Farr sounds lovely.

I think maybe we are just drawn to the unusual, the forbidden.

Actually I think it's more that we don't fit in well with mainstream society, nor do we have very solid or secure social skills (as a group overall), thus leading to lots of more time to explore sub-cultures and indulge in our "inner worlds."

*hops in the hand basket ~ waiting for the ride* Sliders, Farscape, SG-1, all the Star Treks (especially DS-9), Dr. Who (Tom Baker), Twilight Zone, anything Dragonlance, Shadowrun, or Ravenloft, DragonCon.... the list could go on forever. I believe the connection lies in the kinship we all share to some extent of viewing the world from outside the box. That ability to think past traditional structured roles or opinions and see things with a different perspective. Whatever special blend of DNA, circumstances, social input, etc. to make me this way? I'm happy it did.

Every frickin con on the West Coast has MULTIPLE play parties on site.  Not a one did I find at DragonCon.

I'll seriously consider hosting one if other folks want to go in with me on the expense.

ArchangelMichael has pegged it for me-- intelligence and the need for fantasy. Or creativity, if the former word makes people uncomfortable here in the land of the REAL and TRUE. In addition to being viscerally satisfying, I see D/s as a form of creative expression. Science fiction, fantasy, roleplaying all appeal to me because they're imaginative and exotic, and there seems to be a certain crossover between this and the 'creative way of living' that D/s offers.

Not for everyone, of course, but they're comfortable partners in my head.

Status: offline 		Not much more to tell....does anybody want to share the expense of a play party room at DragonCon Saturday night?  Looking for people who will pitch in for a share of renting the room and who will also stay on premises in shifts to monitor the space so that none of us are stuck not seeing any other parties or events that night.

You mean like the 1-4 (basic to master) unopened box sets sitting in my bookcase right now? ;D
I tried to find them a new home on ebay once, the best bid was $40,  for the set, since "no one wants the original DnD sets anymore" ;P -Someone- must want a nice NIB set of original DnD. I don't get to play anymore since my little girl has expressed no interest in gaming, and I no longer have my original players or dm's guides (old gf got those).
