Status: offline 		Yes, I also picked that one up, but it is a pity the world doesn't realise that everyone despite their inability, disorder or syndrome has a contribution to the big picture.

I am a visual learner, I learn from pictures not text and nothing bores me more than a book without pictures, it why I am not well read. Initially it was thought to be dyslexia, but turned out to be aspergers.

Also whilst online I search for what I need via google images, the web side I get nowhere and this was recently tested only yesterday whilst trying to find a cross sectional drawing of a Jabsco raw water pump so we can guess at what was failing, the guy whose problem it was was frustrated as the web held no clues, but I got a drawing inside of twenty seconds and told him, it takes me a different approach to find what I need, as images are my forte. I also use this approach in fault finding machines, I picture the fault in my mind and work from that fault until I find the cause. If someone wants to explain somethin to me, for me to understand what is needed, I ask them to draw the problem.

and was most impressed by her insight, courage and determination.

Status: offline 		That is fascinating. As soon as she said "church steeple" I visualized a church steeple from my home town, the church steeple in central Munich, and an onion-dome steeple I'd seen in Bavaria.

One of the comments was spot-on, I think. That is, autism isn't a continuum, it's a multi-dimensional thing. In addition to being a visual thinker, I'm a pattern thinker. I used to visualize imaginary things arranged in patterns when I was very young.

Take 6 toothpicks and make 4 equilateral triangles with them. I got this immediately. I've only seen one other person do this. I saw the patterns of the triangles, and I visualized the solution.

If I had not had a tragic childhood, who knows how I would have ended up? My aunt once joked that she thought that I would end up either an astronaut or a serial killer.

Mathematician Steven Strogatz shows how flocks of creatures (like birds, fireflies and fish) manage to synchronize and act as a unit -- when no one's giving orders. The powerful tendency extends into the realm of objects, too.

I do a lot of what she's explaining. I'm very visual, I see problems and work out solutions in my head. If it's a complicated problem or I'm inventing I will work out details in my head visually as if I am building whatever it is. I can see the parts going together or not and then I change them if they don't fit so they do until I've got a completed image.

I have more than a few ideas that I've worked on for years and am continuing to at this time.

I also translate what people say into pictures a good bit as if I'm trying to put together a movie.

Strange to hear her say this stuff. Worth watching, thanks.
