http://www.ted.com/talks/alison_jackson_looks_at_celebrity.html

By making photographs that seem to show our favorite celebs (Diana, Elton John) doing what we really, secretly, want to see them doing, Alison Jackson explores our desire to get personal with celebs. Contains graphic images.

I dunno.. imo its freaky that the various govt agencies have still been checking his website frequently since 2002, 9 years or so.. Knowing how they think tho, he probably looks more like a terrorist since doing this website than before cuz normal people wouldnt do that.. kwim?

I wonder if he mentions his girlfriends on that site too... who would want to date someone that posts everything?

i know and yes, its an interesting tactic (like paying your taxes in pennies? lol) but for that kind of tactic to work or jam them up, it would actually take 30 or 50% of the population to do that. The govt and spy agencies have computer software programs that do a lot of searching, and they undoubtedly use algorithms and such to analyze communications, websites, emails, and how subject people behave to detect patterns, etc. Of course he might know that and how to make it more difficult for them.. lol

its really cool that he could write his own code and set up an automated system, just click your cell camera and its on the website instantly. And of course its funny as heck too, all those pics of his din-dins and bathrooms and empty airports..

This is totally one of my new Ted favorites!!

http://www.ted.com/talks/charlie_todd_the_shared_experience_of_absurdity.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2011-11-11&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

Charlie Todd causes bizarre, hilarious, and unexpected public scenes: Seventy synchronized dancers in storefront windows, "ghostbusters" running through the New York Public Library, and the annual no-pants subway ride. At TEDxBloomington he shows how his group, Improv Everywhere, uses these scenes to bring people together.

ok, this is great too!!

http://www.ted.com/talks/gel_gotta_share.html

At the onstage introduction of Twirlr, a new social-sharing platform, someone forgets to silence their cell phone. And then ... this happens. (Song by Scott Brown and Anthony King; edit by Nathan Russell.)

http://www.ted.com/talks/temple_grandin_the_world_needs_all_kinds_of_minds.html

TED is awesome.

I have the vid of her movie (not played by her)....spectacular stuff.  Unbelievably calming (if that makes any sense).

Probably watched this TED before....but I'm downloading it now.....I could watch her a thousand times.

Gift to the world :)

http://www.ted.com/talks/phil_plait_how_to_defend_earth_from_asteroids.html

What's six miles wide and can end civilization in an instant? An asteroid -- and there are lots of them out there. With humor and great visuals, Phil Plait enthralls the TEDxBoulder audience with all the ways asteroids can kill, and what we must do to avoid them.

THIS is just gorgeous: http://www.ted.com/talks/louie_schwartzberg_nature_beauty_gratitude.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2011-11-29&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

(the blurb doesn't do it justice....)

Nature’s beauty can be easily missed -- but not through Louie Schwartzberg’s lens. His stunning time-lapse photography, accompanied by powerful words from Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast, serves as a meditation on being grateful for every day.

I LOVE this idea!! (and I am SO going to check out the refernced site!!) http://www.ted.com/talks/luis_von_ahn_massive_scale_online_collaboration.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2011-12-07&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

the blurb: After re-purposing CAPTCHA so each human-typed response helps digitize books, Luis von Ahn wondered how else to use small contributions by many on the Internet for greater good. At TEDxCMU, he shares how his ambitious new project, Duolingo, will help millions learn a new language while translating the Web quickly and accurately -- all for free.

I am liking this one very much. Rachel Pike is talking of the Climate Change how many many peoples it is being studied by around the world. She has the photograph of airplane innards with laboratory things which my very good friends Bob and Scott measure with at the Easter Island and Antarctica also other places the different bad gasses in the air. Except they are flying on the 727 of Boeing. She is making right-wing brains explode! Haha.

A talk regarding PIPA/SOPA:

http://www.ted.com/talks/defend_our_freedom_to_share_or_why_sopa_is_a_bad_idea.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2012-01-20&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

"What does a bill like PIPA/SOPA mean to our shareable world? At the TED offices, Clay Shirky delivers a proper manifesto -- a call to defend our freedom to create, discuss, link and share, rather than passively consume."

http://www.ted.com/talks/keith_nolan_deaf_in_the_military.html

Keith Nolan was told that he couldn’t enlist in the army because he was deaf -- but he didn’t take no for an answer. After he finally convinced a commander to let him audit ROTC classes, he proved himself a top student and earned his uniform. Although a standard military hearing test prevents him from enlisting, his continued fight has inspired many would-be soldiers with disabilities -- and a vigorous online campaign on his behalf.

*giggle* http://www.ted.com/talks/jenna_mccarthy_what_you_don_t_know_about_marriage.html

In this funny, casual talk from TEDx, writer Jenna McCarthy shares surprising research on how marriages (especially happy marriages) really work. One tip: Do not try to win an Oscar for best actress.

http://www.ted.com/talks/bjarke_ingels_hedonistic_sustainability.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2012-02-07&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

Bjarke Ingels' architecture is luxurious, sustainable and community-driven. At TEDxEast he shows us his playful designs, from a factory chimney that blows smoke rings to a ski slope built atop a waste processing plant.

Theory meets pragmatism meets optimism in Bjarke Ingels' architecture. His big-think approach is informed by a hands-on, ground-up understanding of the needs of a building's occupants and surroundings

By dissecting a cockroach ... yes, live on stage ... TED Fellow and neuroscientist Greg Gage shows how brains receive and deliver electric impulses -- and how legs can respond.

http://www.ted.com/talks/scott_summit_beautiful_artificial_limbs.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2012-03-21&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email

Prosthetics can’t replicate the look and feel of lost limbs but they can carry a lot of personality. At TEDxCambridge, Scott Summit shows 3D-printed, individually designed prosthetic legs that are unabashedly artificial and completely personal -- from macho to fabulous.

Scott Summit uses his 20 years of experience as an industrial designer to make artificial limbs that help people take personal control of these intimate objects.
