Would you pay  10-20% more for the non hormone type?

What about chicken?

Our store Weis- a chain here in the east-  now carries another brand of milk.  I never knew that they were sloppy with their milk.   Until I read how NY was mad over Weis pushing the hormone milk there-  "go back to PA" was one of the comments on the story.

So  would you pay .40 more of a half gallon?        Any thoughts on chicken?

I dont buy or drink/eat either of those.

I do pay more for organic food I buy, especially the dirty dozen.. at least until I have a home again and can grow my own. ... soon, very soon...

I don't really look at the price.  as far as the milk we buy hormone free milk around here.

Chicken, the price difference is a lot more than 40 cents.

I don't use or buy too much of either, especially milk so that is a moot point.

BUT........how many people that are fickle about their milk and chicken, etc.........are as fickle about the products they buy that have milk and other 'dirty foods' in them...hmmmmmmmmmm.........?

Like........ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!

LAT, I dont buy ice cream anymore.   The additives in it- it is not the same stuff as the olden days.

I think I will try the other milk tho.  If it has a better taste I might buy it just for that.

Absolutely and I do. I actually pay more at times but the milk, beef and pork that I buy are well taken care of. It's by far the best meat and dairy products I have ever tasted.

$2.99 for a half gallon of whole milk.
$15.99lb for Rib-eye (Bone out)
$18.99lb for Porter House and T-Bone (If I remember correctly on the T-Bone)
$5.99lb for Ground Beef
$4.99lb on up for Bratwurst to Pork Chops (Can't remember how much the chops were but they were a little pricey, delicious though.)

All-Natural Dairy
Local Dry Aged Beef
Local Pork

Well I haven't tried the chicken yet but I'm sure it's good too.

The whole milk is the best I've tasted as well. I'll pay more for good food in a heartbeat all around the table. You only live once so why not eat well.

Edit: I'm afraid I don't trust big corp farmers to give us good products and I don't trust the government to make sure they do so I make sure I do. Just about anytime someone's focus is seemingly solely on making the most profit at whatever the "cost" it rarely turns out well.

I think our milk is cheaper then yours.   The 1/2 gallon was something like $2.24/$2.40.  I like a glass of milk each day--  easier then anti-acids.

Absolutely and I do. I actually pay more at times but the milk, beef and pork that I buy are well taken care of. It's by far the best meat and dairy products I have ever tasted.

It's well worth it, I think, as you can tell. I can taste a difference in the quality from supermarket. Another plus for me besides being hormone free is that it's local. I buy as much as possible from local vendors because I can visit and or talk to the supplier/producer. They even invite you to come and see their operation.. That seems to be a theme with a few people I've talked with. They come off as proud of their products and methods and are available to show them off. It's nice to see people taking a little pride in what they do, being responsible in their production and quality and also standing readily by their work.

Have you ever had dry aged grass fed beef? Just my humble opinion, it's worth it.

I've bought from supermarkets for a great while and have watched my taste for beef and pork just about vanish. I quit buying pork over two years ago because every once in awhile I would get some that had the aftertaste of the hog pen. Then there was the beef that tasted bland, old, salty and watered down.

The beef and pork I get now is full of flavor, tender and has a great aftertaste. It's clean..you can easily taste the difference, or at least, I can.

This is funny to me in a way...I EAT LESS with the better food...Know why? Cause I take my time and savor every bite of it instead of wolf it down and get the bland tasting crap in already.[:D]

Now I chew my food slowly....I actually caught myself doing a mini-dance in my chair while I was eating a rib-eye the other day.[:D]

I buy whole raw milk from a farmer that hits the local farmers markets. I pay $4.00 for a half gal. and in the winter I buy it (raw whole milk) at my local health store/co-op for about the same price.

I wouldn't consider buying the stuff at the grocery store. I'd rather go without.

Any meat I eat is from local farmers or friends who hunt. Some folks will charge a fair price, others are willing to barter. I barter when I can.

I try to make sure everything that goes into our bodies is as pure as I can find and we can afford. I am fortunate to live in a place that is surrounded by farmers. We have a great farmer's market here and I can get good organic produce on the cheap. Also great natural honey.

Meat I either buy Angus beef or get from the local butcher. The local butcher also has Amish chicken, which is wonderful.

I don't drink that much milk but I do eat yogurt and cottage cheese. I would like to make my own yogurt but have not found a place (yet) where I can buy unprocessed milk. I'm looking though.

I was unclear. As a general rule, the meat in my freezer......I know the farmer and the locker that butchered it. I am lucky to live where that is possible, and it is much less expensive than the cheapest of similar type and cut, in any grocers case.

Just as an FYI, something I learned from a farmer that raises and sells 'Angus' beef. By the feed lots full. Do not pay more for that label as it is 100% a marketing tool.

Per Norm.......to qualify a head of beef as 'Angus' all he has to do is call it Angus and take in a primarily black steer. (Which is funny because there are nearly as many purebred red Angus as there are black.) 99% of 'Angus' beef in the grocery stores comes from mixed breed cattle. I've seen a Charolais Herford mix toss a black calf and have it get called an Angus. This does not make the meat worse, or better.......just marketed as something it really isn't to charge the consumer more. So don't pay more just because some marketing genius thought it would be a good idea.

Wow!! Thank you for that info. I am *very* picky about my red meat.

I have it in my mind that it tastes better, but we all know the tricks your mind can play on you.

I will have to stick to the butcher, which really is not that hard for me to do.

Have I mentioned lately, I fucking love this place?

No I got that you meant you payed less for what you thought to be similar meat I just answered in my own speechul way.

I just pointed out that the meat I get is grass fed, hormone free (forgot to mention that), dry aged (which has a beefier taste in my opinion). You may very well be getting something similar or exactly..that isn't something I could tell from either of your response. I can get a quarter or half processed here locally with all the same goodies except one (Dry aged) for $2.99lb. I'd have to buy a freezer, which I don't have and since I'm moving soon, I decided against going the bulk route. It is a whole lot cheaper and you can choose the way it will be processed.
