I have always held to the  belief that if whatever makes a person or persons happy what is the problem.

But I do understand there is religion to contend with and with that, an outdated almost medieval religion which many county's laws are founded upon.

But if religion is taken from law, how can law prohibit the joining of two people, as without religion which might very well be down to the interpreters own personal beliefs question the happiness of two people ?

You and others will of course understand that I  as a commenter on this subject hold what we have been told of belief in disregard and that because what we know has been told by man.

Whatever one might think of my disdain for the laws of God, know this, if God is a lover of light and life, how can it make laws about who should find happiness in marriage ?

The God that the churches promote I do not believe in.

But if one analyses the laws we are all subject to, remove the religion and often what governs us does not make sense.

I am very proud of my home state....past due for sure, but we are now the most populous state to recognize the rights of all to enjoy the state of marriage.
Of course my whimsical side is telling me that gay and lesbian couples now have the right to be as miserable as everyone else

Miserable, not miserable, whatever. A couple is a couple. It's about fucking time that was acknowledged.

I haven't really got "anything against New York". I'm sorry if I conveyed that impression. In many ways it's a fabulous vibrant place.

I prefer cities that are more human in scale, less geometric (love curving avenues, little pedestrian only arcades ....) and have more trees and green.

Atmospherics. Central Paris Sydney Amsterdam or provincial French and Italian cities are much more me. So it's really just me and my whimsies

PS: Stop being such a New Yorker!

That isn't even close to making everything alright tweakabelle.....New York City is simply the greatest damm city in the world...entral Park has more greenery and trees than all of your little cute cities.....Grenwich Villiage has all of the cute little folksy streets one can want.....Little Italy has a flavor matched nowhere else..and that is bordered by Chinatown....a neighborhood with more ethnic flavor that one can stand.
You owe New York one big unabashed apology......so the next time you are in town to attend a gay/lesbian wedding make sure you apology to every New Yorker you run into.

Sadly, this new law does nothing to eliminate marriage penalties. Can disabled couples in NY on SSI now marry without having their already meager checks cut and without losing their health insurance? Can NY college students now marry without cuts in financial aid? Can widows and widowers now remarry without losing their deceased spouse's social security spouse benefit? For years, these marriage penalties have existed and nothing is being done about it. Nothing is being done about the ridiculous Federal Poverty Level of under $15,000/yr for a household of two regardless if the second person is an adult or child. The middle class is shrinking while the number of low income Americans is growing. I wonder how many married couples, both gay and straight will be forced to divorce so they can get large enough health insurance subsities. Gay couples can now legally marry in New York, but won't low income gays now face the same unfair marriage penalties as straight couples?

Here's a promise mike just for you:

If I ever get married I'll do my best to make sure it happens in New York.

But I won't apologise at the queer marriage. It could very well be a woman I marry ... If not probably a man ...or someone else ... who knows?

Oh. You're talking about New York City. I thought you were talking about New York... it's a whole state (with farms and forests and villages and towns and everything).

Yes... I'm tweaking your nose a bit (particularly appropriate in your case ) but as one of the millions of New Yorkers who don't live in New York city, I get a little irked whenever I tell someone I from New York and they assume I mean New York City.

PS: If I was being such a New Yorker (city) I would have said: "Ay! Wha youse got against New York?"

Ya should've stopped at some of the wineries in the finger lakes. They've got some of the best wines in the world... but not as good as the Niagara region (I might be a little biased in that opinion).

Were ya heading to Niagara Falls (my neck of the woods)? One of our favorite pastimes around here is watching out-of-state boaters go over the falls (you'd think the large signs saying: "DANGER! FALLS AHEAD! TURN BACK NOW!" would be a tip-off.

Marc those that are not actually from the city should,by force of law,be required to add a disclaimer when they claim that they are New Yorkers.....I get sick and tired of hicks and Buffolonians passing themselves off as New Yorkers.A bigger example of flying under false colors I can not imagine
