Certain uniforms have connotations that allude to dominance/submission. For instance a maid uniform obviously indicates service or submission. Something like police or military on the other hand indicates power, i.e. dominance. For me, I love military uniforms for the above reasons, but also because my Master is a former Marine, so that is an element in my enjoyment of it as well.

Decent question SAMHAIN09.. Personally I wouldn't place "uniforms" particularly high on my kink list, but I do like incorporating uniforms for a variety of reasons. And I would say that "control" is definitely one of my thangs... So even if it's not a "uniform" I do like to dress my playmates. So the reasons I can think of are : 1) Dressing a certain way (whether it's a uniform or not) implies a couple of things to me - first, it requires a little effort, second it's an act of submission. 2) Some people enjoy the power dynamic associated with a specific uniform 3) Roleplay is a way of exploring kinks and interests within a certain set of boundaries I've only had one relationship that was very centred around uniforms - A pretty senior manager in a pharmaceutical company had a huge thing for school uniforms. They were always 100% authentic, and she went totally into role (I taught her french over the course of our relationship... assignments, tests etc). For her it was about the distinction between her vanilla life and her kinky life - Putting on the uniform represented that transition. Out of uniform, she was one of the least "sublike" people you'd ever meet - but once she'd put it on, she was a delicious kinky cp loving thing. <ah... happy, happy, happy, days>

i think uniforms are a turn on, if they are done well. those Halloween store uniforms do not do it for me at all. i think some uniforms are easier to make than others - it's not too hard to dress up as a cowboy/cowgirl, or flight attendant, but harder to dress someone up as a fireman or a cop realistically. And yes, i agree with someone who said business clothes are a uniform. They are sexy as hell (in my opinion) and of course, easy to assemble. in short, well made uniforms rock!

I like uniforms too, but it sounds like the opposite of a lot of people on here. I'm generally attracted to the kind of men who'd never wear a uniform (professors, computer nerds, bikers, rednecks, old men), but am in turn turned on by the idea of them forcing me to be in a uniform. Forced to be in a skimpy, submissive, sexy uniform is of course super-hot, but I'm also into wearing professional women's uniforms too (nurse, businesswoman, maid, officer) and then roleplaying being seduced and perverted in them by the unkempt un-uniformed man ;-).

I think a lot of submissives like to see their Dominants in uniforms because it's hawt : ). However, in my own personal experience, very few Dominants/Tops/Masters/Mistresses will play dress up in real life scenes. My last Ma'am told me all the time, "You're the one doing the dressing up, not me. I prefer to remain comfortable." There is always the exceptions of course, and professional Dominants are almost always playing in something shiny. But that sort of cold connection is NOT what I'm looking for, so I'm good without the visual appeal of my Dominant beating me in pvc : ).

Back to the subject at hand.... Tom of Finland :::SIGH::: Many uniforms, but as was pointed out, ALL his men have the same uniform of muscles, hair, and faces. I found this exception. I love uniforms, and at one point, had a very extensive collection. (no Nazi uniforms--for many personal reasons) The uniform depended on the scene-- different uniforms have different purposes. School uniforms, for example, have a completely different effect than say a uniform of someone in authority, such as cop or military. I used to wear lederhosen and bundhosen; few things say "boy" like knee-high britches. Uniforms for me performed the same "function" that sexy lingerie performs for others--it made me feel sexy--and turned on the people I was with. Unfortunately for me, when I started wearing uniforms for my work, it killed my uniform fetish. When I done a uniform for work, I still feel a sense of honor (and yeah, I still feel sexy in it!) but I feel a sense of obligation to honor that uniform and what it represents, and I no longer wear those types of uniforms for kink.
