I could guess, but that is irrelevant. Unless and until there are studies that show increased CO2 is increases mortality more than decreased CO2 does, her statement is not incorrect. If youve got some Id love to see them. AFAIK it is one of the biggest holes in AGW. The world flourished in times hotter than know, and sure as hell didnt in ice ages.

What would happen to plant life in the absence of CO2? You really want to talk about the mortality rates related to a lack of CO2?

Plants dont grow. No plants, no food, no oxygen.

Without CO2 the life of photosynthetic organisms and animals would be impossible, given that CO2 provides the basis for the synthesis of organic compounds that provide nutrients for plants and animals.

I was around and I'm not a big fan of GWB as I know you're not but I'm sure for different reasons than me.  I think both of these particular quotes we brought up were instances where sentences were misspoken. If you think about it, every president has had plenty of gaffes.  The point is all this ballyhooing over Bachmans gaffes and especially the one this thread pertains to is hypocritical. I listed a few of Obamas but there's a crap load more.

In other words, she heard a long time ago John Wayne lived in Waterloo, and she probably didn't hear "Gacy", just the John Wayne part, and then she decided it would sound good in her speech. Unlike thoughtful people, she just went with it. She did not fact check herself. She did not take 30 seconds with google to see if her memory was accurate. Even on this forum I find myself fact checking what I write, and this forum is not all that important to me, not nearly as important as lets say a paper I am writing for one of my classes. You would think that she would take time to have people check her "facts" (or she would) before saying something like that.

Now, is it a big deal? Well that depends on what sort of person you want to have as president. I do not want someone who does not fact check themselves about something as easily known as the birth place of the original John Wayne when using him for patriot cred. I do not want a rash person who does not check before acting, who is hasty and goes with what they "think" they know.

Bachmann isn't dumb. I think she is a religious nutbag, but I would never call her stupid. But I also think she doesn't care about facts, or how she acts on what she thinks she knows, and as president that could be deadly for all of us.

In context her gaffe is worse than any Bushism or misspeaking of Obama.
