very cool....make sure you coordinate with whoever is doing the music at the reception so you can be ready for the various activities that take place there too cuz that's where half the pictures are taken (all the candid shots)....and make sure you have as much fun as the families and guests.

You will do fine, I have seen your work, they will be shocked and awed.  Don't tell them you are a tubgirl, and insure you are there on time, bring some water on a belt, having already ate and time to digest, and this is what you wanted, so.........chill and groove.

You people are great.
Now I have to just make sure I don't smack anyone upside the head. [:D]
Hopefully I'll be able to post late Friday night about how I fucking nailed it.

There is never any substitute for good glass.  Great lenses are worth every penny.

You are much braver than me.

When I was doing a lot of video and film for TV and high end corporate I had people ask all the time about doing their wedding.  No fricking way I wanted any where near a crazy bride.

Take a breath and dive right in, I am sure you will do great.  I would say good luck but just do what you do and you don't need any.

I'm shooting my first wedding on Friday!
I have a photography business and finally booked my first wedding.
All my gear is good to go. Tons of memory cards and batteries.
Shorey's camera is the same as mine so I even have a top notch backup.
The lenses I need to use are incredibly expensive.... so I opted for renting them.
They are soo badass it's not even funny. It's gonna be hard to ship them back because I want to keep them.

Just need some words of encouragement to keep the nerves down.

Ugh.

I use a Nikon D300 and it's impossible to go wrong. And I mean impossible. It's a stunning device which, if it had tits and other ladyparts, I would marry instantly.

I've done (as an amateur) 2 weddings of friends, and both sets turned out superbly (outdid the pro snapper on one of them), although I confess to, through nerves myself (in one case there wasn't even a professional snapper booked) adopting a somewhat scattergun tactic, auto-bracketing on one-push multiple exposures (the D300 does this beautifully), so that 1 of the bank of 3 of each pic was pretty much guaranteed to be right.

Lovely kit - you'll be fine.

PS: One thing - use a number of smaller memory cards, rather than one huge one. Memory cards, even pricey ones, still go phut from time to time, so it's as well to hedge one's bets by not doing the "all eggs in one basket" thing. You most likely know that anyway but it's often overlooked. Best of luck :)

Aileen that is great! You have been working steadily toward this and here you are about to do a professional shoot. Maybe that you arent getting dollay bills for this might help alleviate a bit of the pressure and let you focus more on the creativity and keen eye you bring to your pictures. Remember to breathe. It is fine to be nervous, of course you are going to feel that, it is your first wedding but breathe anyway, nice deep breaths to bring oxygen to your body. You are going to rock this. I love what Shore and other people have been telling you already. Let some more of the greats give you a bit of advice and inspiration:

I learn something not because I have to, but because I really want to. That's the same view I have for performing. I'm performing because I really want to, not because I have to bring bread back home.
~Yo-Yo Ma

I came back to performing with a different attitude about performing and myself. I wasn't expecting perfection any more, just hoping for an occasional inspiration.

Photography records the gamut of feelings written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. It is a major force in explaining man to man. ~Edward Steichen

Perishability in a photograph is important in a picture. If a photograph looks perishable we say, "Gee, I'm glad I have that moment." ~John Loengard, "Pictures Under Discussion"

I've seen your work and you're good enough to get into some of the juried photography exhibitions that the art center I work for has put on.

You're good... so don't worry and just do what you do.

Have you ever exhibited or considered it?

Smile alot.    You will get better shots this way.

I'm rooting for you Aileen!

People are naturally happy at a wedding.  You have an edge here.   You are to be in the background- but STILL SMILE and exude joy.   You will do what comes natural- and hit the best pics.    You have intuition and skill in photos.      Even tho you are a background person your bubbliness matters.

Good luck!!!  I helped Gary shoot a wedding last year and I was exhausted afterwards.  I did the videos and the back up photos.  Gary did all the main stills.  Gary has done many hundreds of weddings as he was a professional photographer.  He still gets nervous about weddings as you only have one chance to do it right.  However, with digital photography and back up cameras you should be fine.  It's so much easier than it was with film.

What I did notice during the wedding we did is that he knows all the poses to make the bride and groom look great!!  You might want to look at photos of other weddings so you know what poses you want to do.  Even the placement of a hand can make a picture look so much nicer.  Make sure everyone is posed the same.  For example, make sure everyone's feet are the same, all together or all apart.  Take several pictures of any group of people as there is always someone whose eyes are closed or looking the wrong way.  Also, every bride and groom has certain pictures they really want such as a picture with a sister, a brother, certain friends, etc.  Have them make a list of those special pictures they really want.  On the day of the wedding you can check off these desired pictures as they are taken.  It's so easy to forget those pictures in the excitement and chaos.  Another hint is to tell other people who might be taking personal pictures to not take their pictures until you have taken yours.  Then have the wedding party hold the pose for a short time so everyone can get the pictures they want.  Other flashes can ruin your pictures otherwise.

We're doing another wedding together in August for some friends.  The pictures will be our wedding gift to them.  It will be a long, busy, but fun day.

Oops..I just noticed the date.  The wedding is over.
