Ignoring the numbers.... It sounds like the premise is it doesn't matter who the GOP picks as far as the election outcome.  That's ridiculous.  I expect a Huntsman or Romney would fare better than a Bachmann or Paul.

Obama losing to a generic republican is funny. Face it, in '08 Obama was supposed to lose the nomination to Clinton. And then he was supposed to lose the general to McCain. Rassmussen told us so in every single poll they had conducted. This far out, I don't concern myself with polling data, it is meaningless. Lets see what the polls, all of them, say this time next summer, because when it comes to politics a year is an eternity.

Well, I sure would like to meet Mr. Generic, he's got something and apparently a whole lot more than real live, known repubs.

See how it takes an imaginary fantasy repub to get any votes. Too bad for them that none exist in real life.

Well if Obama is defeated the repubs will have accomplished their FIRST goal, their FIRST priority...'make Obama a one-term pres.' A real bunch of patriots there, I want to work with them.

Of course there is this latest poll about how GOP supporters feel about the people running.

Campaign 2012: The Republican Field  from CBS  and the NYT

Only 23% of Republican voters are satisfied with the candidates running for their party’s
nomination for president, while a solid majority of 71% wishes they had more choices. At this point in 2007, a smaller majority of Republican voters were looking for more candidate choices.

Romney might but Huntsman is just another weakling liberal like, milk toast republican. He is like another McCain and certainly won't be a Tea Party fovorite.  The republicans need some one who will go after Obama and liberal politics and not mince words. Gingrich comes to mind for me, I don't care about his baggage,  he's the one most capable of bringing it on.  I would pay money to see him in a one on one debate with any candidate.

The biggest monkey wrench in the bag is Hillary. If she went after the nomination and took it away from Obama the republicans I think would have a problem.  In that case I would say go for broke and send in the Gingrich.

I always get a kick out of polling data... people always glom onto any poll they feel will make their side appear to win...

Polling Data always works best for those PAYING FOR IT.

I love the assertion that Rasmussen is somehow above all that. Yeah, they formed a FOR PROFIT CORPORATION only to conduct polls PURELY in the public interest.

Here's an example of a guy who steadfastly defended Rasmussen's alleged integrity until he discovered seemingly engineered flaws in their process:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasmussen_Reports
Nate Silver In 2010, Nate Silver of the New York Times blog FiveThirtyEight wrote the article “Is Rasmussen Reports biased?”, in which he mostly defended Rasmussen from allegations of bias. [22]. However, by later in the year, Rasmussen's polling results diverged notably from other mainstream pollsters, which Silver labeled a 'house effect.'[23]
He went on to explore other factors which may have explained the effect such as the use of a likely voter model,[24] and claimed that Rasmussen conducted its polls in a way that excluded the majority of the population from answering. [25] Silver also criticized Rasmussen for often only polling races months before the election, which prevented them from having polls just before the election which could be assessed for accuracy. In response, he wrote that he was “looking appropriate ways to punish pollsters” like Rasmussen in his pollster rating models who don’t poll in the final days before an election. [26] After Election night that year, Silver concluded that Rasmussen's polls were the least accurate of the major pollsters in 2010, having an average error of 5.8 points and a pro-Republican bias of 3.9 points according to Silver's model. [27] He singled out as an example the Hawaii Senate Race, which Rasmussen showed the incumbent 13 points ahead, where he in actuality won by 53[28] - a difference of 40 points, or "the largest error ever recorded in a general election in FiveThirtyEight’s database, which includes all polls conducted since 1998."[27]
And here's Quinnipiac criticizing their data in the Wisconsin elections as reported in the NYT:

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/rasmussen-polls-were-biased-and-inaccurate-quinnipiac-surveyusa-performed-strongly/

So she says. It wouldn't be the first time a potential candidate claimed they had no intention and did anyway.  I do hope she doesn't.

Lovemuffin demonstrates the Republicans actual reality....yanno,where they grasp at dreams and whimsy...hoping for a miracle(in this particulat fantasy the Democratic party actually imploded and runs an alternate candidate...one from Obama'sadministration to boot....yay Hillary ) of course failing that any disaster that befell the nation would do.

No dreams and whimsy is and always will be the dream wherein the Dems implode for you folks.....holding out hope that Hillary resigns her position, one in which she is doing a fine job and adding luster to her reputation,to commit political suicide by challenging the head of her party and an incumbent President.
Sheer lunacy were she to do it....and sheer lunacy for anyone who thinks there is a snowballs chance in hell of her doing so.

the republican party has been floundering since before W.  What puzzles me is why you throw up these nags for office and call them republicans then, since they have absolutely nothing to do with the founding principles of the republican party, only slight 'name' association with  the mockery the true believers have made of the republican party, in your eyes.

The Dems did implode. Remember the last election.

If you read my postings and understood basic English then you would understand I hope she doesn't run.

A snowballs chance in hell ??? Thats an original one.  IMO sheer lunacy is the electorate who voted for Obama in the first place.

I missed the democratic implosion, and so did everybody else who has any grounding in reality.

The swing seats changed from democrat to republican in the house, and are going to swing back after the abhorrent ineptitude and ignorance demonstrated by the do-nothing, know-nothing 'republican' swingsters.

It puzzles me too.......the mockery as I'm inferring you to mean would be sound fiscal principles and a constitutionally limited government.......some  mockery that is.

constitutionally limited government, at what point was it constitutionally unlimited, or barring that unconstitutionally unlimited?   I would have to see that in the constitution somewheres then......

The sound fiscal principles jingle is not of any substance, nor of any reality, the debt clock will confirm that.

It is irresponsibly premature to accuse the conservatives (rinos, republicans, neo-cons, and teabaggers) of fiscal responsibility now or at some future time; simultaneously, it is irresponsibly inaccurate to accuse them of fiscal responsibility in the past.

and you can quote me on that one, dawg.

I want Morgan Freeman to run, but your right, it's just a dream. But until they put up someone worth voting for it's all I have.
