I'm a writer.  I write for HOURS at a time, and I write with my eyes closed as often as not.  I specifically bought a computer that has a little button that, when clicked, doesn't allow the cursor to move.

Sooooooooo worth whatever extra I paid for it (Maybe $25 for a different model of computer?)

i love my lappy and although my palms never touch the thing my touch pad is sooooo sensitive that i can still activate a mouse move without touching the damn thing. i often end up clicking into profiles or places i don't want to be without even touching the pad at all. i do also now have a wireless mouse which is great if i'm doing alot of work that needs the cursor moved. there is no way i'd want to go back to a desktop though. my old one was shite!

Do what I did............get a bigger laptop. She is a big hefty bitch but I have plenty of room for my long finger and also a number pad. Which oddly enough I don't use. I was so used to my smaller laptop without the number pad I still type that way.  I also love the gorgeous big screen she has!

It did take me awhile to figure out why the text on my screen occasionally would mysteriously get larger or smaller.....lazy right thumb.

I too dislike typing on a laptop! The biggest reasons are not having
the number pad to my right, and it my fingers have no freedom to flex around.
And don't even get me started on the touchpad! Ugh

MEEE TOOOO!!!!!!!

Hate that stupid touch pad, the wireless mouse does help a lot. And when I remember, turning the touchpad off is a miracle.

I'm a heavy lap top user and type fast, but hate touch pads.   I run a cheap USB mouse and keep the touch pad turned off.    I used to use a Trackman Pro track ball and LOVED it, but they don't make them anymore and the new ones are too small to fit my hand.

Am I the only dumb ass here,   lol.

I hate typing on the laptop.  I have a problem where my palm just so slightly brushes over the touch pad and suddenly I am typing in a random spot on the page.  It drives me nuts, I hate on the laptop.

Anyone else ever have problems are am I just the dunce of the group.

2 Words: MacBook Pro

The touchpad is annoying to say the least, the solution is a mouse and turning the touch pad off, I simply got fed up with deleting pages or lines of text because my sleeve brushed accidentally over the touch pad.

I really dont know how people accidently touch the pad.      My right hand on mouse-  left is on the left side of the computer.    Sitting at a desk-  with a commercial grade chair.

if you are using the mouse, the touchpad doesnt come in to play in the case of your prior post.

The Man just bought a new laptop at Best Buy. HP and the HP rep was in the store talking it up. But when he then asked the sales clerk, there was another model with more memory on sale for almost a hundred less. He had gone in to get a tablet but this was cheaper and better.

I write so much that I can't realistically use a mouse.  I am currently sitting with my feet on the desk, and the laptop on my... well.. my lap.  *giggles*   I sometimes write in my bed or on the floor or put the computer up on a shelf in the kitchen while I cook, etc.  It is such a big part of my life that I just ... wow... a mouse.  What a concept.   I certainly use them at work, but at home?  Huh.  Hadn't even thought of that.

LaT - there are a few articles I've read about prof. writers.  It's a fairly common thing - seeing the pic in the head, not being distracted by what's around, etc.  Maybe you are a prof. writer and you just don't know it!

best,
sunny

A lap top is not required to be placed on ones lap.   You can set it on a desk.

Now that you mention it I never put a laptop on my lap. Too damn inconvevient. Even in a car I put it up on the pimprest. NOPE ! ONE time. I went to the basement at work for a smoke and there is a chair there, but no desk or anything even close. So for about one minute in the entire history of the planet..........and I won't bother taking it down there again.

I took mine to the neighbors house a few weeks ago.   It was so uncomfy- that is the last time it will go there.   It is her house- so I cant really move things around.   The light is all wrong- the posture is all wrong- ---
