Am I the only dumb ass here,   lol.

I hate typing on the laptop.  I have a problem where my palm just so slightly brushes over the touch pad and suddenly I am typing in a random spot on the page.  It drives me nuts, I hate on the laptop.

Anyone else ever have problems are am I just the dunce of the group.  [:D]

You're no dunce, man - you just have big hands, same as me. Used to drive me crazy too, until I slapped a piece of blue painters' tape over the touch pad. Works like a charm!

Suggestions:

1.  Get a wireless mouse and turn off the touch pad.

2.  Get a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, and then you can even get comfortable, and type.

I too dislike typing on a laptop! The biggest reasons are not having
the number pad to my right, and it my fingers have no freedom to flex around.
And don't even get me started on the touchpad! Ugh [:D]

I believe there are sensitivity settings available thru your operating system.  Mouse SPEED used to drive me bonkers till I found I could slow it down.   By speed, I guess I mean ratio between amount moved on pad and apparent mouse motion on screen.  So, moving 1/16" on pad would make cursor move 4" on screen.  YIKES! Now, I've got it set to something like 1/4" on pad is 1 inch on screen.  Old ratio = 64, new = 4.

ETA: EVERYTHING is adjustable - just have to know where to find the things.  GOOGLE is your friend!  You Are NOT the first to have this problem.

I actually prefer My laptop.  It's been that way for a number of years.

<<<<  Typist @ 80 wpm.  I rarely have issues.

I use a lap top all the time.   Just plug in  a mouse...  you will notice a difference right away.

Big hands I do have.  If I don't hit the keys straight on I always hit two at the same time.  The biggest one is I almost always hit the u and i together.

Usually I just limit anything that's more to a couple of lines to the desktop.  I would rather use the desktop anyway.   The Mrs would rather use the laptop so that works out, :).

I have carpal tunnel in both hands... somehow the mouse helped-  with the wriste pad for the mouse.

I just bought a new laptop today and man it's nice. Keypad to the right and everything.

$500 at Wally. I don't like buying stuff from them as much as I used to but it was a good deal and this thing is almost as big as my desktop computer and just as powerful. I did hate typing on a laptop but not so much anymore.

Quad Core Amd-4GB Mem-500GB Hard Drive and 17 inch monitor.

I am another who rarely has problems and I like my laptop even more than my desktop. I learned how to type in high school where my teacher would slap our fingers with a ruler if we allowed our palms to fall onto the keyboard. That was a huge no  no!! It's now second nature to me and I never give it a second thought.

Having the right furniture can matter.  Mine is on a commercial disk with a commercial grade chair.

My laptops have the full keyboard. I still hate it. It seems so fragile, like I have to tiptoe with my fingers. These don't seem to have the problem with the touchpad but a friend of mine's did. It drove me crazy.

I have no use for the touchpads either, I always use a real mouse. Dragging and dropping are as they should be, instead of a pain in the ass.

As for keyboards, it took me a while to get used to them rather than a manual typewriter. I used to pretty much smash them. For some reason certain keys would always stop working first, notably the "A" and the spacebar. I also pop off some keys on purpose. The capslock, both windows keys, the insert key and the right Ctrl and Alt. 

Of course I don't type right anyway, but it sure beats my handwriting.

....I spend more time reading things then I do typing things.   Oh-   the lap top-  where I lay my hand gets too hot- so I put my check book to pad it.

Show off! I have never even thought of investing in one, I despise them so much.
My few experiences with using one were enough to turn me away.
It's nice to know there are good potentials out there though. Thanks!

i don't mind typing on laptops. i type pretty fast (around 80wpm) and i also keep my hands raised so i never really had an issue with the touch pads. if i get slouchy, then yeah, but i figure "hey, i'm slouching, whatever." =p
i'm pondering getting a laptop because i'm tired of wasting notebooks on notes. =p if i get a laptop, i can take all my class notes on the spot and i don't have to waste time re-typing them once i'm home.

(or i could just be like all the other losers and play on facebook during lectures. [8|])

All I use is laptops, a pc for general stuff and a macbook for study and work, I prefer laptops now and find full size keyboards too big, but then I only tend to type with one hand. The macbook has a lovely keyboard, sweet to use, whereas the pc, well, it's seen better days and even has keys missing, so the keys can be actuated, but it takes a bit of care to get the character up.

The beauty of the macbook, is everything just works, wheras the pc can be erratic sometimes.

I use a keyboard most of the time on my laptop, but I deliberately bought a larger laptop so the keyboard was a reasonable size. I'm also a touch typist (120wpm at the last test), but every now and then I find my hands drop onto the annoying touchpad.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse I often use instead, but I've also installed a speech to text conversion program. I use my laptop for my writing projects and there are times my hands are just too tired to type accurately enough. Lying back, closing my eyes and talking to the computer is the easier option, although it has been a pain learning all of the formatting commands and training the package to recognise my 'unique' accent, lol

you ca also buy a mouse call the rat 9 which is highly adjustable giving you finger rests etc

its about 100 pounds not sure in dollars
