SternSkipper -> Tea Partiers ... in the words of the immortal Edward M. Kennedy... time to "move ovah' (6/30/2011 12:22:14 AM)

Green Business front man Van Jones is drumming up support so liberals and thinking middle class have a place to voice their concerns about the way things are headed inside the beltway. I post these links not so much to promote the new movement. But to pose the question, Are the two big parties at the end of the rope the public has given them across the decades and do you think perhaps they're actually on their way out? I know that's a reach, but how long do you have when nearly every single voter thinks in the back of their minds that their own party is on the take to the lobbyists?

The Tea Party is in part a result of dissatisfaction with the republican party by a large chunk of its members and or voters. This was evidenced by the number of republicans going down in the primaries to be replaced by more fiscally conservative candidates.   As a whole its a dissatisfaction with business as usual with both parties over the years. As I know it's hard to admit for some here, the Tea Party is comprised of a cross section of the political spectrum. I would admit a larger portion come from republican / conservative ranks but many are disaffected democrats and minorities and those who were never politically active before or even ever voted but have finally experienced life enough to see the fallacy of liberal policies. As far as I'm concerned and as to your point, I think my party is on the take though I don't claim it anymore as I now claim to be an independent.

As far as Van Jones and his movement is concerned, I would say to him.........good luck with that  [sm=rofl.gif]

Hillwilliam -> RE: Tea Partiers ... in the words of the immortal Edward M. Kennedy... time to "move ovah' (6/30/2011 9:31:44 AM)

Muffin, you pointed out a HUGE problem with the political process when you were describing the Tea party. "never politically active or EVEN EVER VOTED"

I've never missed an election I was eligible for in 32 years.

A large number of these people are part of the problem (never voted) now all of a sudden they decide they are the solution.

lovmuffin -> RE: Tea Partiers ... in the words of the immortal Edward M. Kennedy... time to "move ovah' (6/30/2011 9:44:17 AM)

I think most are disillusioned republicans and to a smaller degree are those who never participated.  Many I'm sure are young people growing into it, who knows and I don't care, at least their finally getting involved and no longer part of the problem.  IMHO they are developing the right mindset.

Whatever.... you should save your ineloquent treatise on what the tea panties are about for a couple of months from now when they can't get the time of day from the media without shootings[:D]

I've been eligible to vote for only a year longer than  yourself. And I find it interesting, that now we have to be told we've been wrong all along by a bunch of no-shows who suddenly respond to pavlov's bell[:D] But that's democracy, and if they are willing to pull the fucking lever for once in their lives, I support their right to make their voice known.... DESPITE the fact as Muffin seems to indicate, it WON'T be a two way street. Which is what I see as the chief problem I have with the tea party.

I guess that remains to be seen. I'll try and remember you said that.

You have to be told you've been wrong all along by mostly a bunch of disaffected republicans and or conservatives who have been saying it all along.

Those Pavlov's bell guys only relate to a much lesser extent. Should they have to take a civics course ?

As far as I'm concerned and to your OP both parties suck.

No, this is America, one is welcome to be as ignorant as they want. That of course doesn't mean the ignorance is a requirement just because they are louder and more aggressive in their rantings.

My point is that it's utterly foolish to presume that the disaffected are limited to republicans people who've never voted and a MINISCULE number of cross-over democrats... I think you'll see this movement have a similar effect on the other side of the aisle. BUT, what if it has the same ACTUAL impact as the Tea Party? As in "Thanks for the vote. Now sit the fuck down and shut up".
Course maybe Barbara will magically change all that.

Don't forget the Pavlov in this instance. Actually it's Pavlovs. Put the Koch brothers at the top of that list.

Lesson #1 in real politics for all the Tea Party beginners: Always check to see who gains ... in this case, that means check out what ppl like the Kochs stand to gain from Tea Party demands ......
Lesson #2: Put two and two together .....

Perhaps you'll notice that your statement is contradictory.

The Teas aren't particularly astute in their take on government, and certainly not enough to pinpoint any fallacies. They have no real positions on most things, and those they have are naive and impractical (as the GOP has had to explain to Tea freshman in Congress). They are just unhappy, and their awareness of its causes is fuzzy at best, flat out wrong more often than not.

And that complicates solving any of those problems.

I don't presume that the disaffected are limited to republicans people who've never voted and a MINISCULE number of cross-over democrats. I presume that  based on my knowledge, research and those I know who are Tea Party types, *Tea Party* people are mostly made up of those, though there are many others who are involved for all sorts of different reasons.

I don't see the  "Thanks for the vote. Now sit the fuck down and shut up" attitude amongst those who benefited from the Tea Party and were elected.  Maybe you could point something out.

I actually went back to your links and read them rather than a scan through like I did the first time. I even tried to keep an open mind considering what I know of Van Jones but I'm not going to bet on the movement to have any similar effect much less the same impact as the Tea Party. Who knows, I could be wrong but I'm not ready to take back the "good luck with that" roflmao smiley yet.

And who is Barbara ?

This has something to do with Van Jones??? The man who's done more to hurt his race's credibility than gangsta rap?

I don't see any contradiction.

Let me pinpoint some fallacies....As a result of the democrats and a whole lot of the republicans the US is 14 freakin trillion dollars in debt with the clock still ticking away while inflation looms over us. Social program entitlements are insolvent and need some attention they have not yet received.  Many of our institutions are corrupt with rampant waste and fraud just to name a few. Where is that flat out wrong ? What exactly is naive and impractical ?

Good links....especially the first one.  Your text partly illustrates who I'm referring to when I say "disillusioned Republicans"

I'm sure you have a point to go along with that.
