Actually, you are.

Short memory, I guess.

No and I don't blame Oblunder for Iraq either.
But when *everyone* in the whole country knows how bad those "free-trade" deals are it makes no sense to try to get us into more of them and lose millions more jobs. Would Oblunder with his "162" i.q. think that all those millions of jobless people would vote for him?
It's just amazing how someone could screw the pooch so badly in 2 1/2 years.
Oh well, maybe if he had a "150" i.q. .....

Its incredible that you continue to bleat on about FTA`s without having a clue how much they benefit the US. World Bank and IMF loans are often insistent on opening up trade, due to America`s influence within these organisations.

Obama doesnt make these deals on his own, your politicians do, under pressure from the major companies lobbying tactics. This was happening way before the current president and will continueway after he leaves office. Dont even get me started on how many of these trade deals often benefit the US and not the other parties involved.

CountrySong -> RE: U.S. STILL BOMBING LIBYA (7/2/2011 9:16:39 PM)

The last I heard a preditor drone costs about 4.5 million. 222 of them cost about a billion dollars.

What did we get for an investment of over a trillion dollars (http://costofwar.com/en/) and the loss of over 6,000 American (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/fallen/) in the two most recent wars?

9/11 only managed to kill about 3000 Americans and it hurt the economy but the economy was already due to be hurt. If we keep fighting these long term high cost wars then eventually Al Queda wins in the same way that America beat Russia. We are on the verge of bankruptcy. If they can keep us at war and spending our money and resources then eventually we do go bankrupt. Plus everyday we give up more of our freedom and rights.

If we are going to keep fighting then lets to what the Dhali Llama suggested and use an efficient weapon - the neutron bomb. It kills everyone. Scares the hell out of everyone and leaves the oilfields standing (which is why we are fighting these wars anyway). No American lives lost. Low cost. Highly effective.

Or if you are really worried about killing inoccent people then use a long term biological weapon. People get sick. they have a month to surrender and show up at a US base to be lie detected and get the cure. Those that don't die.

Better yet - why don't we just spend the money to switch to self produced power so we do not need the cheap oil. Leave the middle east to it's own devices. Let them kill each other if they really want to!!! And if they mess with us again turn a coulpe of their cities into radioactive wastelands!

If it were a republican that was doing this you would be drooling for more blood. You are such a hypocrite, deriding "leftists" for not supporting a pacifist role in Libya while you are not supporting your traditional "Commander and Chief is above questioning" crap... I guess questioning the president about military actions only applies to republican presidents for you[8|]

CountrySong -> RE: U.S. STILL BOMBING LIBYA (7/2/2011 9:35:38 PM)

As for "free trade agreements" they really are not about "free" trade! They are about money and power. Yes a lot of "high paying" blue collar American jobs will be lost but a lot of white collar people will make a lot of money so the money actually ends up in American or rich foriegn hands anyways.

Plus, the loans from the IMF give a lot of political power and influence to the USA and other key players in the world power scene because most of the countries can not pay off their loans so they have to play nice - look at South America and the IMF there.

The "I'm not going to vote for you" if you vote for FTA has very limited power because the media controls who does an does not get power in America and they are the ones who make money from FTA's. And please don't start with we have real power look at the "TEA PARTY MOVEMENT!" The Tea Party Movement was set up and funded by the rich to ehlp them protect their income not by grassroots average Americans.

Gosh - do I sound cynical or what?!?

My advice - learn to play the game their way and stop complainning! As the old saying goes "half the people don't care about your problem and the other half are glad you have the probelm in the first place." Start a business and start working with the system!!!

Substantial assets yes! The problem is those assets do not produce enough to pay off our debt. According to the CIA Worldbook per capita GDP was only $47,200 (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html). Per capita debt is about $46,500 (http://www.usdebtclock.org/). We can not pay off our debt with what make. Assets are not liquid.

What will we do sell off all of our national parks, mineral resources, and a few states? Oh wait, I forgot! That is what we are doing!!!!

The world has us by the financial balls!!! Especially China, the can bankrupt the USA anytime they want. We know it and they know it. That gives then a lot of influence over our economy and our politics.

Nice post, I snipped a bit of it for brevity. I am glad someone else actually gets how the IMF operates. Money into IMF funds is based on each nations financial strength, pro rata, so at present America is top dog. I am wondering what will happen when China and India take the top two spots. If one needs to see the downside of IMF loans then take a look what happened to the Phillipines.

Well gosh, maybe cutting taxes in half and quadrupling spending was a bad idea! Ya think?

It doesn't make us broke, however--just reluctant to pay our bills.

U.S. wealth tops $56 trillion. World-wide GDP is only $60 trillion. We could almost buy all the world's goods.

Face it. We're rich. We just don't like to pay for shit.
