Agreed.
- If I found I had friends who were judgmental fucks, then they would shortly not be my friend anymore so no problem there.
- If I found that my family didn't understand the concept of personal boundaries then I would... uh... help them to learn about them... or reject them.
- The work thing is too complex to have any generalizations over. Different states have different worker's rights laws. So in some states you can fire someone for this reason (or any reason but the 5 protected ones). In other states you cannot. I will say this though. I've worked in a fair number of major corporations and honestly I can't see people making much of it. In all the places I have worked folks were more interested in how well my job was performed. Certainly when I did performance evaluations for my employees, "physical appearance" was not one of the items on the list.
I personally think the "reasons" people give for not doing this have more to do with self-image boundaries than they do losing one's job.
