"Yes, women carry more body fat naturally (duh, well spotted, they need it to be able to give birth), that doesn't make them obese"

For one, boobies are fat. I don't mean it that way - I mean boobies are literally made of fat mostly. They have been classified as enlarged sweat glands in the past.

Also, there is an underskin of sorts, and Women have more fat on the outside of it while Men have more on the inside of it.

There are more differences in the genders than most people realize. It's actually a fascinating subject, as are the psychological differences. Pretend all you want that they don't exist, but I am going to be a tough sell.

But that's not what this was all about. There are male and female athletes in almost every country, and the point was that per capita the US nears the bottom of the list. If we need a thread about the differences between male and female anatomy, I just don't know what to say. It is more than genitalia. But setting aside the "offset" between the genders, which does not infer that one is superior, the point was about differences of both in different countries.

I would say regions, but that might not quite apply because health is addressed differently on different sides of those lines drawn on a map.

I know! We're sending too many fat people to the Olympics!
And why do the Nordic countries do so well in Alpine sports but you don't see too many Swedes in track and field?
"Yumpin' yimminy, de 660? I don't think Rolf can *walk* 660 yards!"

Yaknow, by the OP's trollish logic, India must be REALLY fucking fat.  1.2 Billion people and how many medals?    a drumroll please.................. 3

But Phil mentioned Olympic athletes.

I read an article only this week that claimed that while the world's population was getting less fit on average, Olympic athletes were getting fitter (relative to Olympic athletes in the past). The conclusion boiled down to this: an unexercised person is likely to be a lot less fit than an exercised person, but a top-level athlete is likely to be a lot fitter than that 'exercised person'.

Biologically women carry an extra layer of fat. 2% when you are dealing with sixty million people is 1.2 million more fat women.

Oh pardon me again, you claimed to be a scientist (I guess you got your degrees from the same place where the imaginary girlfriend comes from) and so I assumed wrongly that you would be able to understand the concept of obesity, but instead you wiggly and try to distract. Yes, women carry more body fat naturally (duh, well spotted, they need it to be able to give birth), that doesn't make them obese. It's 2% more obese women than men in this country, so that also makes a lot of fat guys. I guess you are one of them and that's why you have to bitch about women so much.

I think MarcB said it quite well here: http://www.collarchat.com/m_3754628/mpage_2/tm.htm

You couldn't be easier to spot if you'd be waving a flag. I guess not being accepted by one of the dommes, femdom couples, switch women or the poly households you wanted to join made you even more bitter than usual. Poor diddums...

Again you wish to make in personal and try to bring my personal life into things... 2% is 1.2 million more. You get how as numbers get bigger % changes become more relevant? From your post it looks like you don't.

It's interesting, I also notice self appointed forum monitors. Interesting.

I think that's true due to the advances in sportsmedicine. Have you seen some of those fancy machines they use to gauge oxygen use, muscle spurt (wrong word, I know) and the like? Professional athletes and Olympians are really fine tuned, and considering that medals are won and lost on fractions of a second, I am not surprised/

My latest hero is a gal I went to HS with, I recently reconnected with her via the FB. She is a triathlete in her "spare time" and is MONSTER. Solid muscle, the queen of crosstraining. It doesn't hurt that she's spent the last 30 years in San Diego, where the climate allows for year round outdoor stuff. She is not a lightweight, but I suspect she is fitter than most half her age.

No one is arguing with you. No one spoke to you unkindly or offensively. Take a deep breath, and try not to see every response as an attack. It's just a response.

David, you do realize that this is an American site yes?
That would probably explain the scarcity of say,....Czeck politics in here.
I don't go into any of the English politics threads because I know nothing about English politics.

Women even tend to have more hidden fat, because a female body will go through greater changes when pregnant it's just biology, but that won't have them classified as obese.

As for boobies, not sure that they are mainly fat, I don't think I'm fat but I tend to have rather large mammary glands, a couple of years ago I was over exercised and had an extremely low BMI, so low that I skipped periods and had trouble walking as the fat pads on my legs weren't there and I was walking on the bones, still had my boobs, they refuse to disappear. It's almost impossible for a female - no matter how athletic - to have a BMI as low as a male athlete and stay healthy, but that doesn't make women fat.

To give you a chuckle, I was joking with a friend not too long ago, he called me a boy so I took a pic for him, I was a little bit heavier than now (I think it was March or April - judging from being quite pale) but my boobs haven't changed, and I don't think it's possible that obesity has the ability to manifest only on 2 parts of the body, it just doesn't seem to work...

Ha a bit like the picture uplad doesn't seem to work, I think...

tazzy yes yes i know zillions enjoy sports

but actually what i meant was where as in uk we are brought up doing pe and games as mandatory

oz children arent they like it they do it they dont

also in oz if people want to play sports they do it after work not given time off during work

Unless the whole education system in Australia has dramatically changed, PE was very much a mandatory part of the education system in Australia.

We got a few Antipodeans here, maybe they could chime in? Sports and physical education no longer mandatory in schools? Would surprise me because people from the land of Oz tended to take it very seriously...

it is and they do. which tends to annoy me because the prizes at the end of the year are heavily weighted towards sports rather than academics. last time i looked, schools were mainly academic in nature, not sporty!

LadyConstanze -> RE: Why is Australia so Athletic? and the U.S. so bad per capita? (7/6/2011 3:43:15 PM)

Thought so too, been a few years but I recall that some parents got really upset when their kids weren't doing all that well in sports, which I found a bit odd, I found that a bit odd, I'd be much more concerned about academic achievements than sports. Just thought things might have changed as David claimed it was different and I haven't been to Oz since the 2 yeast I've spent there as a student, which is a while ago.

Sports are a waste of time. Working out and sparring can do alot more.

What if you are enjoying sports? I do martial arts which happens to be a sport and a pretty good workout, and yes, we do some sparring there as well. In case somebody enjoys playing football, why tell that person that they have to work out?

DavidLee44UK -> RE: Why is Australia so Athletic? and the U.S. so bad per capita? (7/7/2011 1:45:20 PM)

tazzy i went to school in papua new gunea from age 7-10

it was an austrailian school

we were asked if we wanted to do pe/sports which I declined

i came to uk when 10 and even in primary school we had a fixed pe/sports lesson

that continued till i was 16 and left school

it put me off sports and physical exercise even though i loved football and cricket still do

i know have a kinect for my xbox and have started using keep fit programs

have just bought ufc personal trainer thoroughly enoying it

i have friends in uk who do sports they are given time off work , and i know some use it as excuse to get off work

in oz have friends also who do sports they have been told to do it after work and not been given time off thus there motivated by enjoyment

but hey ive lived through both systems so what do i know

feel like 500 questions

Not really. I've never really been able to just take time out of my week and -just- exercise for the sake of exercise in a gym, but when playing for football and rugby teams I find I'm able to literally sprint about the place for ninety minutes without getting tired. It's hard to enjoy solely exercising to such an extent that you'll forego the impulse to just give up.

Edit: In regard to the UK, you'll find we're one of the least healthy nations in Europe despite being one of the largest populations there, so I wouldn't think that the number of medals we receive at the Olympics particularly indicates how healthy we are as a country. Perhaps, due to the fact we're a more condensed population, it's something to do with heightened competition or maybe just investment. Who knows, really.

unless this was in the last 20 yrs, my kidlets both went to school here their entire lives. from day 1 they were involved in a sports program. there was an allocated sports day per week, and involvement in other sports was heavily encouraged. sports (cricket or footie) on the weekends is only stopped by heavy rain or floods. zone carnivals, state carnivals and national carnivals are de riguer on any school from primary all the way through sr high. perhaps, in NG, you did not have a 'proper' australian school due to a different culture.
