I recently met a gal that walked out on a date because the guy mentioned he had cats. Kudos, to you dear, job well done.

Declawing cats actually never crossed my mind until a bloke in canada tried to demand this if he and I would have moved on....and then I checked it out more and realised that it is illegal in Germany and the UK (amongst other countries)....

so quite frankly, I am glad it is illegal over here and even more my furrys

Yes, they worked for me - I was pet sitting for an 8 year old cat who transitioned immediately from the sofa to the cardboard. I only needed to use the catnip initially.

Status: offline 		I've had quite a chuckle reading this (though I still have no ideas for lunch). More cats would have good homes if several things happened:

- People kept indoor cats indoors and clipped their nails
- People who didn't want cats unless they were declawed simply didn't get cats
- Spaying and neutering was mandatory for cats from all pet stores and shelters (you note this leaves plenty of room for cat breeders to do their work)
- People thought of their cats as more animal (sometimes), our cats were always locked in the room with the litterbox and food when we went out, a basic laundry room where they didn't have access to scratchable furniture and still had nice windows to sit by
- People started training their cats from day one that ANY kind of clawing was not cool - you know how many dumbnut people I've seen playing with kittens and letting the kitten scratch them and the furniture because "Ohh it's cute and he's not doing any damage"
- For LIFE if owners took kitty away from things when kitty was scratching and re-directed to the scratching posts (which there should be several, in various sizes and materials for them to scratch)
- I'm told a squirt bottle is also humane to keep cats away from scratchable furniture

Which one of those 'tightwad' solutions doesn't work?

I did not even WANT a cat.   But I inherited her.   She was spayed, and declawed when I got her.   She also does not shed.   (hard to imagine)  She is the most loving cat I ever seen.   She had been an indoor and outdoor cat... and now as of this year she is an indoor cat.  She can fight with her back claws - and based on the birds, mice and other things she has killed- I think she does quite well.    She is 3 years old.... and they live a long time.  I do not want a 2nd cat as another cat will shed.  

95% of any cats would not work for me.   If I ever did get one - again - I want one JUST LIKE HER.

Status: offline 		I specifically waited til I found a decent second hand living room set for cheap (well actually ended up getting one for free when friends moved to Chicago) because my furbaby is gonna be on it, and, even keeping sheets on it as a cover, I know it will wear out sooner than a non furbaby home.

If you are that worried about furniture, get a parakeet.
