Another fucking lie. Not at all what she said.

Perhaps she should have considered her words more carefully.

Appearing on CNBC this morning, presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) was asked about this morning’s dismal jobs report and whether higher unemployment rates might help her chances of winning in 2012.

CARL QUINTANILLA (CNBC): Does it strike you that as the unemployment rate goes up that your chances of winning office also go up?

MICHELE BACHMANN: Well, that could be. Again, I hope so.

It also has nothing to do with the OPs claim that the pledge includes language about black children being better off under slavery.
It's the first point in the preamble to the pledge (on page 3 of the PDF).

Sorry Willbe, but it is in there.

If its in there quote it. You cant.

I agree. With DailyKos and thinkprogress around you are guaranteed to have your words twisted into things you never said if you leave them any room.

Well, instead of tossing insults, what's your interpretation?

For me:

"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President."

Preceded by the first two paragraphs "Faithful monogamy is at the very heart of a designed and purposeful order..." (see post 19)

Means it was better to have two parents and be a slave than be a free child in a single parent family.

tweakabelle -> RE: Bachmann Signs Pledge that Says Black Children Better Off During Slavery (7/9/2011 8:12:25 PM)

To me this pledge tries to rewrite history and sanitise slavery. It unambiguously argues that blacks were better off while enslaved. A particularly vile odious and indefensible part of history too. One that resulted in untold millions of totally unnecessary deaths, unspeakable cruelty and grief, monstrous injustice on a society wide scale, all of it 'justified' by toxic race politics and ideologies. In that sense it is as vile as Holocaust revisionism.

Yet some of those who (quite rightly) scream loud and long about the offensive attempts to rewrite the Holocaust are trying to persuade us that this is not an attempt to sanitise slavery. Could some one please make sense of this for me - because for the life of me I can't.

Whoa... hold on.

This isnt directed specifically at you, tweak.

What made anyone think a slave family lived together? Many families separated, sold off to different owners. There was also no guarantee the child born wasn't the owners or the overseers offspring.

Who in the hell came up with this latest piece of bullshit?

Now kill that silly homosexuality = second hand smoke philosophy.

Regarding porn:

"Do you remember when all those porn stars and producers flew to Washington in their private jets to demand government bailouts?  Yeah, me neither.

Porn is a free, self-regulating market driven 100% by consumer demand.  It's private, profitable, legal and doing booming business in the middle of a recession.  Ron Jeremy is big...but not too big to fail."

xssve -> RE: Bachmann Signs Pledge that Says Black Children Better Off During Slavery (7/11/2011 7:02:35 AM)

That's a Bob Jones University meme, they have a long history as slavery apologists and defenders.

The fact is that the institution of American slavery was predicated on preventing the formation of African American families, which continued even after the civil war - welfare was originally a way to prevent hunger riots by agricultural workers who couldn't find work in the off season - at harvest times, welfare would be revoked via "man-in-the-house" rules, i.e., a family could not receive assistance if there was a man living in the house, see Piven and Cloward, Regulating the Poor.

Blacks have been continually fucked with, as a community, in ways that no other immigrant group ever was, save perhaps the indigenous Native Americans.

AEI is another influential right wing institution with a history of supporting racist policies, thinly disguised as something else.
