I think it is good for kids to learn proper penmanship, it helps with mental development. The evidence is mounting on how important it is to develop dexterity and the flexibility of our brains.

I agree. Not only this- but why would we want anyone to be unable to read it??? That makes a person illiterate.

Well, script changes over time. If you look at the way fonts were produced just a century ago it has changed.

FR I voted NO, because my handwriting sucks and I can print as fast as most people write, and have a more legible result. I think penmanship is over rated. The only reason I need to write in cursive is to sign something. Scriptedly, Some Knucklehead in NJ

Where I am they already have stopped teaching handwriting after 1st grade... any handwriting period...

With technology becoming what it is, in another 10 years I think writing manually will basically be somewhat obsolete. At my former workplace we were implementing digital signatures and seals to our documents. You would type your name on the line where a signature is required then click a box stating that you certify that as your "official signature" and we would place a digital seal on the document and when/if it's ever printed out it would have a watermark over it. Thus basically a handwritten signature would no longer be required. I have many times online had to do the same thing to documents especially when applying for jobs online. I know my daughter rarely handwrites anything at all except maybe her "signature" if you want to call it then when she paints/draws on paper which even that is rare. She almost always does graphic arts anymore and again signs it digitally. So the idea of teaching it in schools may be a waste of time instead of concentrating on other subjects that are much more important for the future.

I hate to be the one to break it to you (ok, not really...I'm a sadist), but there are converters that plug into the cigarette lighter of a car. It looks just like a cell phone charger but you can plug the AC cord of a laptop into it. As long as the car battery lasts, the computer will work.

What is more important then being able to read and write? math, science, computer science...all subjects that are lacking here in the U.S. compared to other countries around the world. And they are teaching reading and writing..just not to write in cursive.
