Doesn't it take just as much faith to be an atheist or agnostic as it does to believe in God?
Not at all, that question shows a profound lack of understanding of the question. There is no overt proof of the existence of God, therefore faith is required to believe one exists, not the other way round. How much faith does it take for you to believe that there are no armies of killer zombie robots marching down the street outside your house right now?

Why none at all, because there is no evidence whatsoever of such an army, therefore it takes no faith to not believe in it.

I have had overt proof during my life, which is why I have faith that there is something greater than us all. No profound lack of understanding at all.

Thanks for proving my point. I will give you I used god in that, but I have stated I believe in something greater than us all.

I still believe it takes as much faith to disbelieve in god, goddess, higher power, choose your moniker, as it takes to believe. Either way, you are choosing to believe or disbelieve something that you can not see directly. I believe because of things I have witnessed, not because god came by for coffee one night.

not quite buttercup, what you fucking said was you had overt proof of it. that's what i'm calling bullshit on. you have no fucking proof of anything of the sort.

like i said before, you are free to believe any stupid shit you want to, but if you speak or post publicly about it, then be prepared to be called a twat for holding those stupid beliefs.

I would read that differently, just things that happened to her that convinced her, though she does mention faith and faith for me is just a believe without hard evidence. It's why I call myself Agnostic instead of an Atheist, I find it highly unlikely that there is a god, but I don't know if there is or if there isn't... Nobody could show me proof that there is, there's also no proof that there isn't and a couple of things are a bit hard to explain sometimes.

Trust me sugar, if being called a twat by you is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I think I will survive.

I saw the proof. You were not there, and there is no reason for me to tell you the things I have seen and experienced that cause me to have faith, because you will just stomp your foot again, and scream and yell and cuss.

Enjoy. You can have the last word, if you wish. I am done.

yeah except Hanners is right, you have claimed to have overt proof through personal experience. So say and do what you like, she's right you did write that.

and unless that proof is "open tor view", it isn't fucking overt, now is it?

domiguy -> RE: Being true to yourself (7/16/2011 9:21:18 AM)

you did say, "overt proof." Care to share it with the gang?

and you'd be wrong. she said she had "overt" proof, not that she'd seen things that convinced her. there's a fucking difference, she said she had proof, well i want to fucking see it.

Look, if any of us had proof for or against the existence of a higher being, we'd be freaking minted, talk show appearances, books, endorsement deals "LC who has proof that no god exists eats XY cereal every morning..." If I'd be good enough with photoshop, I'd take that pic of me holding a glass of wine and exchange it for a box of cereal... Mind you, the fact that I was a bit pissed when the picture was taken and I also wore elfin ears possibly would make the ad campaign a bit less effective...

catize -> RE: Being true to yourself (7/16/2011 2:54:44 PM)

I'm with HannahLyn on this one, if 'god' showed someone who already believes, why doesn't he/she have visible or explicit proof of his/her existence for the non-believers?
