I just read the article and there are a couple of things to mention.
A  The writer knew almost nothing about firearms.  He states that she bought a .40 revolver. The .40 is an auto round.
B  She was still careless but it doesn't support or challenge her claim that he stepped in the way which makes it mutual lack of  judgement. 
C Her finger was not on the trigger.again that does not make it alright but it does change things.
D Never point a gun at someone you don't need to shoot.

Oh, and some googling indicates that some Ruger .380 LCP models do not have a manual safety. Jus sayin.

You can't idiot-proof the world. The sad part is, can't be 100% certain she was lying because I've met some media personalities who would do something stupid like step in the way of a gun in order to sensationalize. (Not saying that is what happened here, but some people are that stupid.) And she was stupid for having the gun out to begin with. Not only do you not point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot, but out in public you don't take a gun out of its holster without good reason. A gun is a weapon, and you don't take out a weapon unless you intend to use it. No one should even know you have it on you unless it comes to that situation where you do have to use it.

I didn't take sides on who told the truth.  She either pointed it at him or was waving it around carelessly nothing there excused her.
Please note that I didn't say they were the same gun I said the 40 cal is not a revolver round.  And finally Ruger is know for it's devotion to safety  if you found that this model does not have one ok. but it would be the exception for Ruger.  Did you meam LCP or ACP

The LCP. It's a tiny, cheapy 'purse' gun, and I've found many sites stating that it doesn't have a manual safety. The trigger pull is supposed to be 8lbs for safety reasons, but I've seen posts saying that in tests, it is really a bit over 5lbs.

Sorry its off topic but blame that on Moody's. Ireland is one of the few countries in trouble that is controlling its deficits. Its really just contagion from Greece as largely is the problem with Italy which seems in control of its spending despite the big dept as its deficit to GDP isn't too bad.
