When I was in grade school, and out of school for the summer, I wanted to go swimming and my mother said I couldn't because it was too cold.  I told her fine, but I was going swimming the next day, no matter what.  I woke up the next day, and there was snow on the ground.
I love Billings.

Just thought she might want to edit it. I don't mind if you don't

I live in Iowa. March in Iowa is a tricky bitch.

We often have some of our worst snow storms in March. Twice, since I've lived on my little farmette, we've had such big snows that we could not even get the 4-wheel drive out of the lane. This last year, our road, a state highway, was closed for two days due to the amount of snow and depth of drifts.

It is also quite common to be able to sit outside in jeans and a light weight shirt in March.

It is also not unusual for both to happen within a week's time.

Where my sister lives........they had snow just last month!

March weather here: snow, sleet, rain, thunderstorms, ice storms, bitter cold, unseasonably warm, blue skies, tee shirt weather, flooding that closes roads. And frequently several on the same day.

If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes.

Hey Des, did you guys move to Montreal? That's exactly what the weather is like here year round.

LadyPact -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 2:12:57 PM)

Sounds very much like Colorado Springs.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 2:18:17 PM)

If it's as impossible to dress appropriately as it is here, it probably is.

DesFIP -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 5:26:56 PM)

I used to say the teen arrived between hell and high water. We had a major blizzard. Thankfully my plow guy did the driveway four times, every 8". Four days later it melted and the roads were closed requiring an extra hour to get to the hospital via the detour. I went into labor the day after the blizzard so I didn't need to be taken to the hospital by town plow, and I got home before they closed the bridge.

Remind me of living in Munich, out in the English garden in March, laying around with kit off as it was really sweltering hot, a week later freaking snow. Wonderful summers but freezing cold winters (but at least a dry cold and the alpes nearby so great skiing), been to Graz a lot lately (nice corner of Austria with the best smallest airport ever, they don't even blink an eye if your luggage is 10 kilos more because you bought too much of the delicious local wine, quite tart but the rose is to die for) and they seem to have it even more extreme, they regularly go from bikini to heavy coats all in the span of a few days (usually March and April) but damned, do they have great skiing!

Hey at least it was a week later, it would have been more disastrous if it had happened while you were lying there naked

LadyConstanze -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 6:08:55 PM)

Actually the Munich weather wasn't so temperamental that it changed that quick, and you know, I was always a bit of prude, while I never minded being topless (mainly due to having trouble finding a bikini top that fits and hating the white stripes on my shoulders) I always kept my bottoms on, I like to read and fall asleep in the sun, and I just don't want to worry about moving in my sleep and treating somebody to a view of my tonsils from the wrong direction. I'm so old fashioned!

Rereading my response, you are right Zephyr. I am allowing my feelings about the OP to interfere with my courtesy, and I do apologize.

Throwing courtesy aside, they don't look like mountains to me. [:D]

pahunkboy -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 6:25:49 PM)

March is pleasant in PA.   September and October is even better.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 10:50:13 PM)

Tou are right, they aren't mountains, Kirata. People from Montana probably have a different idea about what a mountain looks like, then say, people from england.
Billings is an awesome city, very unique because of those cliffs.

Arpig -> RE: weather in march in usa (7/14/2011 10:58:28 PM)

There are parts of the world where inclement weather isn't considered a valid impediment to travel.....

My brother tells a story about some friends of his who went down to the States. I don't remember which state, but one relatively south. Anyway, they were driving up into the mountains when they came to a road block where the state troopers were turning back anybody who didn't have chains on their tires because there was snow in the mountains.

Well the couple was getting nowhere arguing with one of the troopers that they really didn't need chains for a little bit of snow,  when one of the other troopers called his colleague to the front of the car and pointed to the Ontario plates.

The troopers waved them through and wished them happy motoring. [:D]
