Hunky, if you do break it down into compost, only use it on flowers and other nonedibles.  DO NOT use it on vegetables or anything else you'll eat.

Good idea.   I could also shovel it into the rock driveway..it looks clean after it been out a while.   Maybe the old stuff - could be used on sidewalks for ice.   I dont know if it could be re-used or not.

It's great you know how to start threads. Personally, I am impressed. But this asking about the minutia of our everyday lives has to stop. It's BORING. Sunny tried to tell you that but she is just too nice. I'm not always nice. Stop It It's Boring.

Rant over, pls return to your regularly broadcast thread. Thank you.

I have to tell you, I once almost suggested that we have a Pahunk forum all by itself. One day I came to polls etc and 11 threads were started by Pahunk.

Do you throw in in the garbage or dump it in the yard?    If you dump it in the yard- is there a trick to it?

I grab the box.........walk out the south east basement door..........across the patio........across the lawn that is just south of 'the project' otherwise known as the hole we are digging to build a flagstone patio that feels like it will never be done........past the tomato plants growing along side the south side of the garage.......past the horse trailer......under an oak tree.........past the big gate into the upper horse pasture........across more lawn........across the lane............across more lawn.......under another oak tree.......to the west fence........ and FLING that SHIT as far out into the set aside ground as possible.

I then walk back under the oak tree, across some lawn, across the lane, across more lawn, past the big gate into the upper horse pasture, under an oak tree, past the horse trailer, past the tomato plants growing along the south side of the garage, across the lawn just south of  The Project, across the patio, into the southeast basement door, and back to the corner where the fucking box goes. I then dump more litter into the box and VOILA! Clean cat shitter.

I hear ya, chickie. It would be entirely different if they were thought provoking questions or topics of general interest a bit less totally focused on hunky.  For the most part, they are just plain not.

Don't get me wrong, I love that there are so many people who can start great threads, since mostly I don't have the time to keep up with a discussion (and I think that's part of being a thread starter).

I have started a few non BDSM threads, mostly about a food related subject, since in my never humble opinion, this board knows food !!

But the lame ass "what do you do when you contemplate your naval" threads just bring the IQ level of the entire board down.

JMO, YMMV

Depends where I am and what I am using...

Years ago I used shredded wood as cat litter and right now I just use sand (due to my dads fuss about using that one) and with that it ends up in some garden areas.

In the UK I haven't had my own garden and couldn't use shredded wood as my birman cats did not bother to tolerate to use that....so I had to use the common commercial type of stuff and that ended up in thrash bags and then in the big bin outside

Ordinarily I throw it out but I'm seriously thinking about just shoving it up the ass of posters that don't have anything other farkin' thing to do except start threads every 5 minutes about stuff people just don't give a crap (pun intented) about.

Regular kitty litter is not compostable.  What type are you using?  You may be able to flush the poop - check on the container.

http://ask.metafilter.com/20068/Disposing-of-kitty-litter-responsibly-and-other-littermatters

Regular type.   I would rather throw it out then possibly have to dig up my sewer pipe.

See- in this part of PA  garbage collection is a service one has to order- they change by the bag.   Being that I eat dinner at the neighbors every night... I dont need to order a pick up for quite a while.   I dont ask to squeeze any into her can- because she is picky.     If I did put it in the garbage can-  it would be 50/50 mix of litter and garbage.

If you really want to compost it or dump it into the yard you need to pick up something different that will break down/be compostable.  There are a couple options on the market these days, the pine based ones like feline pine (and there are a few generic versions) or swheat scoot which is made of wheat or yesterdays news which is made of newspaper.  Often the pine ones & the newspaper variety are pellet form so they are not clumping, but swheat scoop is.  A lot of these brands will offer you coupons, and I believe one of those brands will actually either give you a coupon for a free bag or refund your money for trying it.

The normal stuff has other additives in it - its not bio-degradable.

Thanks

I will have to look for those.    You see - a month ago my cat peed on the floor.  So I change her litter more often now.  Meaning I completely empty to box and wash it down-  and dry it out-  She has not done it again-  but I want to keep the box clean.

The pine stuff if kept scooped will last a month between box changes.

What I am wondering is if the sand or wood chips get tracked thru the house.

The litter ends up- a foot outside the box-  which does not bother me-  nor would it if sand or wood.   But all thru out the house would.

I collect it in one of those plastic bags they put your groceries in from the grocery store for 24-36 hours then put it down the garbage chute....they are going to stop offering those in my city  in September of this year so I will use something else....Mostly, to carry my groceries, I use those canvas-like bags but on occasion I get some of the plastic bags for the cat litter.

I bought sand and made some cat litter liners from sturdy old sheets that are elasticated. you put the sand in the sheet and when it is change time, i scoop any poo out, throw it in the bin, take the sheet and sand outside, turn the hose on it for a little bit ( helps wash urine away) leave it in the sun to dry, give the cat litter tray a soak ( i have 2 that i alternate ) and put fresh liner and sand down in the new tray. This way it saves money, is environmentally friendly, and if something should happen to your kitty, the sand can be used for other things.

Edit for an is

I put it in the garbage. Throwing it in the yard is icky. I can't imagine why anyone would do that.

Imagine the fun when it gets wet and soggy and somebody walks through it and brings it in the house on the shoes, fun fun fun

ROFL, wasn't my intention but glad to be of help... Sorry, bin day today and I was just disinfecting the bins and then thought about litter in the yard, rain (a frequent thing here) and the fact that I have to shampoo the carpet on the stairs again, it made sense...

Hey it's all good, at least I'm losing weight. It's bin day here too and I like the image of the cat litter being carried away just fine.

LOL, but the rubbish removal truck broke down, we met the bin men on the way back from the vet, waiting for the repair guy. Doggies had a field day greeting the bin men, for some odd reason bin men are a source of great excitement, the truck gets filthy looks and a few growls (it's quite a noisy thing) but the bin men are their best friends (apart from the postman and butcher), they get paws and licks.

Maybe they are sucking up because they smell something "good" in the truck and are hoping that either the men will fish it out or let them go for it.

That is to say having to change the entire box...dumping the whole thing washing the box and starting over.
A 7lb bag of litter pellets will last 4 weeks.

You do have to scoop daily.

Nope, bin men give them a fuss and pet them, they are utter tarts, anybody who makes a fuss over them is adopted as a new friend. Now the very funny thing is, that the breeding standard for a Doberman is that they are "aloof to strangers" - both are pedigrees who obviously haven't been educated about their breeding standards. Mind you, they are also classified as "working dogs", the only ones who can make the buggers work for their attention are the cats.
