I lubs sunshines all Year around Collection [:)] i sometimes do and learned whilst Living abroad, that in my Case its much wiser to spoil myself than to waste it on the remains of my Family in their celebration days....and learn to Be ok with that [:)]

What do you buy yourself?
And when not, why?

No, I dont. I never really thought to, actually. I tend to buy what i want when i want, assuming i can afford it, of course. But then, I dont celebrate my birthday anyway, its like any other day to me. It comes not long after Christmas and when i was a kid, my Xmas present was always also my birthday present cuz my parents didnt have a lot of money for stuff like that. So my birthday became a non-event to me.
Besides,.. golly gee.. I dont want to think about getting another year older!

Not really, but I tend to try to do something really special for my birthday that I want to do.

This year, for my 30th (ugh) I'm planning on taking a cruise with some friends.

I've already taken one vacation this summer and am leaving for another one Saturday. I figure that I work hard, so I deserve it.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/20/2011 2:56:28 PM)

today i was going to buy myself this stupidly cute little toy that sings. =p hahaha (lg-mode in full force)
however... i figured $12 would be better spent elsewhere. =p

Since I got my dog, almost every splurge seems to be for him.

I used to before I met the SO. My birthday was always a non-factor growing up. Either my mom forgot or couldn't afford do to much for it. For me it became a non-issue. When I started making money meaning when I had a job I'd always get a little something for myself... I've stopped now because the SO is above and beyond generous not only on birthdays and Christmas, but all year around. If I bought a gift for myself I figure after he has already done that for me it would be selfish on my part. I have someone who cares for me and provides not only the things I need, but the things I want as well. There is no need for me to indulge myself in addition.

Charnegui -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/21/2011 12:27:19 PM)

To be honest, I celebrate 2 b-day's nowadays!!
3 yrs ago on feb 1, I started my new life (by fleeing from the ex) and my actual b-day is within a week so they are exactly half a year apart.

For my second b-day I do not buy myself a gift, but for my real b-day I do give myself something. If the money allows it, (when having little) I go to do something fun with myself or with Gaia... I love myself so, I deserve to be spoiled every now and then. :)

I figure by all rights I should have died before I hit 30 & I've nearly died a couple of times since then. So I celebrate every birthday to the max!! I am sooooo impressed that I am still breathing in & out, it's all bonus to me.

Of course I buy myself a birthday gift; and a Christmas gift too. No one seems to pay attention to my wishlists.
AND YES I am 50+ years of age.

Oh dovie, I do something similar.  Every payday I allow myself about $50 to buy anything I want.  It usually ends up being yummy smelling stuff - perfume, body oil, lotion, etc.  This month?  I've been working my tail off and have a lil extra money.  I'm considering having all my good jewelry that needs fixed taken care of.  I have a necklace of pearls that needs restrung, a ring that's missing a diamond chip, a bracelet that needs to have a couple more links added to it, and I need a new watch band for my beautiful watch.  That just might be what I get myself for my birthday.... Hmmm... It's coming up folks... get those cards in the mail so they get here in time!  (I'm nothing if not subtle!)

Kaliko - I'd be delighted if you used the idea!  I'm sure your sister would be touched.  I mean it's a nice gift to give to oneself, but to give to someone else, well that'd be really sweet.  YAY!

Yep, and I'm off to do just that. A trip to my fave craft store and lunch at a good sushi joint. [:D]

Epytropos -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/23/2011 1:58:13 PM)

I always buy myself a very expensive dinner. There's little I love more in life than fine food and I move around so much I almost never fully experience what a given city has to offer, so I always pick out a very highly-rated place and go. Sometimes friends or lovers come, if they have the cash and inclination, sometimes I'm on my own, but regardless an excellent meal with an excellent glass of wine and a couple fingers of excellent scotch with dessert is a birthday tradition I can't live without.

WyldHrt -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/24/2011 12:11:42 AM)

If you are down San Diego way and like sushi, I can recommend the place I had my birthday lunch today. I don't do wine, but the sushi is excellent!

Epytropos -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/24/2011 2:43:22 AM)

Sushi and I have a checkered past. I had a really bad experience the first time I tried it and ever since my relationship with it is rocky. I eat it, but only if I'm with someone who loves it and the restaurant they pick serves nothing else. It's not something I seek out for myself, I'm afraid. I appreciate the thought, though lol.

erieangel -> RE: Do you buy yourself a birthdaygift? (7/24/2011 10:44:36 AM)

Since my birthday is the first week of Dec. I've never really celebrated it all that much. I buy what I want as the money becomes available. Last year though, I told my son that all I want for Christmas and my birthday were a hug and a kiss. For my birthday, he bought me a gold chain --that was the hug-- and a crystal Hersey kiss. He gave me a matching bracelet and another Hersey kiss for Christmas.
