ORIGINAL: rawtape I don't know, most older (read 40+) male comic book readers have rather an avuncular soft spot for Supergirl. Back then, she was always trying so very hard to live up to the standards of her more famous cousin, that one tended to view her more as a favourite niece say, than as a sex object. Personally, I think Wonder Woman (created by the definitely not vanilla William Marston) had more BDSM-ish overtones. In the original incarnation, her golden lasso forced anyone snared in it to do her bidding, though this was subsequently weakened into simply forcing people to speak the truth. And then there used to be the weakness -- if one bound her bracelets together, she became powerless and ultimately a slave to whoever did the binding. And, if I'm not mistaken, almost all of the issues of the original Marston run (1941-1948) had at least a few panels rife with images of ropes and tying. As long as we are talking about comic book characters, I've heard some people mention that their first little frisson of non-vanilla delight came from watching Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in Batman Returns. I think for some of us a tad older, it might have been seeing Diana Rigg as Mrs Emma Peel. Wonder Woman was always my favorite... a strong woman that had a submissive side
