Boehner and Obama Nearing Budget Deal, Leaders Told WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has informed Democratic Congressional leaders that President Obama and Speaker John A. Boehner were starting to close in on a major budget deal that would enact substantial spending cuts and seek future revenues through a tax overhaul, Congressional officials said Thursday.

I cannot believe Obama is caving on this. The minimum he should get is an immediate end to the Bush top marginal tax rate cut.

I doubt Boener can deliver on anything he promises with his teabagging crew. I think Obama is too ready to believe that they have the nations interest at heart.

True, my comment is based on the claims that the revenue increases wuld come from a tax restructuring to be done next year (which obviously won't happen or won't be progressive).

There have been leaks all day, and they all say there are virtually no revenue changes, currently or in the future. I tend to buy that, because I dont think any bill with revenues has a chance of hell of passing the House.

What a disappointment. I hoped Obama would raise the debt ceiling without congress and refuse to allow any deals that would hurt the poor and middle class. The majority of Americans disapprove of making cuts to the big 3. Taking a strong stand against that would get him re-elected. Also, I don't look for things to go well for republicans in congress next election with the 71% disapproval rating. Why won't Obama wait until democrats re-gain control of the house to make any long term changes? The way it's looking right now, the senate is the only hope for poor and middle class Americans.

From what I heard on the radio on my way home from work, this is already being disavowed by the White House. They aren't close to anything, except staying at the top of the news cycle for another 24 hours.

Odd that anyone could possibly believe that the Democrats plan, which essentially means bankrupting the nation and finishing of whatever remaining employers we have left could possibly help the poor or the middle class. Buying votes through giving handouts to the able bodied doesnt help anything anyway, in fact it creates dependency which fosters far more problems than it was ever meant to solve.

Actually a deal that no one likes probably means they met somewhere in the middle.....and that just might be a good thing.

Republicans are the ones who don't want job growth. They ran their election campaign on jobs jobs jobs, then voted no on jobs bills. The majority of jobs created by the rich are overseas. Many of them are hoarding their record profits and not creating jobs anywhere. Rich republican business owners promise to create jobs, then refuse to create jobs except overseas and say nobody is "entitled" to a job. I don't think the lying traitors should be "entitled" to live in the US.

The only reason for jobs to go overseas is if government chases them there, and thats exactly what is happening. Its a sad day when Communist China has a friendlier business environment than the USA We are headed towards becoming what Communist China once was in fact, and they are assuming the mantle we once held All due to a lessening of government control over there and a tightening of governmental control over here
