Rather, to make that sure dead people dont vote. That leftist extremists dont vote four or five times...

In other words, to make sure elections arent rigged

But what can you expect from losers who get their news and information from assorted  comedians and clowns

The type of people who cant stand the thought of fair and honest elections

To safeguard against voter fraud and ensure that only the "right people" get elected, Republicans pass laws requiring voters to show government-issued photo IDs.

(Note - in Texas, students IDs would not count but gun licenses would.)

You mean to make sure the "right extremists" don't vote more than once, right??  (just had to turn the tables on your assumption, there )

I don't know where other people vote, but in my district you have to show your drivers license or voters registration card, and you're crossed off a docket that means you've casted your vote.  To assume the whole nation is going around searching for dead people's ID only to vote more than once is an extreme thought in and of itself.  While it may be happening, I doubt its happening in any greater abundance than other situations where people vote in harmony (meaning people voting for people who they normally wouldn't vote for, but their household, dom, master, whatever are voting for).  That too skews the figures and is a disrespect to the whole system of having the right to vote.

My belief is voting in political elections is not a right, nor is it a privilege.  I think it is a grave responsibility. They should make 'informed' decisions which are best for them in the long-term.

All this crap about changing how a person of age to vote is allowed to vote, is voter suppression.

Voter suppression is voter suppression and I am dead set against it.  It's NOT good enough for this country, IMO.

**edited to add, if people honestly want a gov't issued ID to vote, then I am in complete agreement with Imperatrix on this.  It should be free to be eligible to vote.  I've got nothing to hide, but do not agree with limiting an American process to only certain individuals.

A county ID and a driver's license should all be handled by DMV is what I am getting at but I didn't say it clearly.  This way all ID's have a commonality to them that is easily comparable.  I am not a big fan of the county ID because they looked "home done".  That is the point I am making.  I'm not saying it has to be a federal ID.  We live in a republic of sovereign states, the state should be able to have a single ID system that identifies someone completely.

imperatrixx was speaking of a state ID, not a county ID. Do they actually have such a thing as 'county ID' in NJ? Bizarre.

What is your profession again?

One would surely hope not anything that involves careful reading.

And you are thinking they slipped into power thru voter fraud?

Who was Stalin running against, for example?  What was the final count?

Non Sequitur.

Simply a ploy for more government intrusion into our lives, a favorite republican goal.

I am saying there are rules that are being ignored and simple solutions, so simple that only someone interested in promoting  fraud would support.

I think the perpetration of a fraud would fall squarely on the shoulders of the ones advocating this way to invade peoples privacy and control them.

Yeah, I'm not so much fussed about what form of government ID to take, just that the requirement to be able to vote shouldn't have a fee associated with it :)

A Massachusetts state ID is $25.
