I'm just a little confused by the "our form of government is the worlds oldest".... Not so sure that is correct,or that I am understanding what it is you mean.

I feel exceptionally proud when America openly gives when ever some one is in need be it here at home or across the pond. Americans are the most generous people in the world and thats cool.

Being an a.f. brat I have been many places over seas and in America and I must say there's no place like home! I have been to some beautiful countries and made many friends but no one lives as good as we do!

American by birth Southern by the grace of God! (before anyone goes apeshit that was just a joke)

We have a kick-ass Constitution, some great national parks, and no monarchy.

It wouldn't be the world's oldest form of government but there has been uninterrupted rule by pretty much the same institutions since 1776 if that's what he meant. The present form of UK government might be a good bit older although it gradually changed to become a constitutional monarchy by about 1760. France, Italy, Germany etc. would be younger.

What makes me most proud of America is indeed its abstract ideals and the stubborn refusal to bow to those who would abandon them.

What makes me less than proud is that we have people who believe their ideals should be a requirement for everyone else.

I don't think that anyone can add up the amount of money ( charitable and tax dollars ) that the people of this great country have sent around the globe to help others in need. I am very proud of that but am hacked off because we never seem to get thanked for it.

I am so tired of listening to this line of nonsense.

If you have been to as many countries as you claim then you know many have an equal or higher standard of living.

Do you realize that this "great country" has also received aid from other countries?

Sure we have. How much have we given compared to what we have recieved ? I'm thinking 99% given, 1% recieved.

Yeah, we Canucks rip on our rowdy downstairs neighbours a lot as we sip our tea and discuss our free healthcare and 90%-subsidised university fees, [and a reminder to the historical revisionist posters you were 2.5 years late to the Hitler party; German U-boats (subs) used to fuel up in Maine to torpedo our naval convoys in the Atlantic , i.e., nurses and food supplies as well as military vessels, when you were North America's Switzerland], but you yanks are:

Often the first in to help during international disasters.
Some of my best friends [and veteran subs] are Americans!

Cuts are coming to Canada as well. Without the accounting tricks Ottawa likes to make, the IMF puts Canada's debt at nearly 80% of its GDP.

Just remember we were the least affected by the US and Europe's debt crisis, because our Liberals refused to let huge banks merge to make even huger ones piggybacking into mortgage scams.
Hopefully we can get Lord Harpermort out before he does more damage, but in the meantime we'll enjoy our $1.05 buck.

Agreed on avoiding the mortgage related debt crisis, good job. Unfortunately you do have a social program debt crisis that will be addressed by the Conservatives, sooner rather than later. My guess is the $1.05 buck will improve even further, because youve shown the ability to elect people with a clue about economics of late. Harper is saving your cute but frigid asses, not doing damage.

Well, lots of banks and trust companies were bought up by big banks when i lived in Canada and under the Liberals. As i recall there was a bailout of Canadian banks, not to the degree of the US but a bailout none-the-less. Many Canadian banks own banks/branches in the US and greedy bankers are the same everywhere imo and they had their fingers in those stinky US mortgages, just not as much.

It was about $125 billion, not dissimilar from the US bailout after accounting for the relative sizes of the economies. The difference is Harper bought good bank assets in order to inject cash and shore up the bank's balance sheets, not the toxic shit we got involved with that should have papered the banker's walls.
