John Boehner walks away from debt talks(golf is too important to miss I guess.....)
House Speaker John Boehner has walked away from negotiations with President Obama over a deal to raise the debt limit.

"In the end, we couldn't connect. Not because of different personalities, but because of different visions for our country," Boehner said in a letter to colleagues. He said Mr. Obama " is emphatic that taxes have to be raised" and "adamant that we cannot make fundamental changes to our entitlement programs."

"For these reasons, I have decided to end discussions with the White House and begin conversations with the leaders of the Senate in an effort to find a path forward," he said.

House Republican leadership aides told CBS News that Boehner will work with the Senate leadership in an attempt to reach a deal that meets the GOP's two central requirements: That spending cuts are equal to or greater than debt limit increase and that there are no new taxes.

When I'm short on cash, that's always what I do....make sure I don't increase my revenue.

Yeah, when you are not able to pay your bills as an individual, and your budget slashing still leaves you unable to buy food, then you have to find a way to get more money...

We can only tighten the belt so much before we cut off circulation.

He hears, he just knows that his number 2 is waiting in the wings to usurp him, and the tea party freshmen don't like him.

In other words his personal position as speaker of the house is more important than his country

Why doesn't he put it on the government credit card like he and his friends have done all these times past particularly thru the W years?

Oh, yeah, debt ceiling. No emergency appropriations for you.

"Top GOP aides say Mr. Boehner will now work with Senate leaders on an alternative aimed at averting a market-rattling, first-ever federal default."

Doesnt sound like he walked out to me, just away from the clown in the Whitehouse.

You do know that prices on Treasuries have steadily risen, right? Nobody except the liars in the OA think the US is close to default.

But but but, he  IS the clown that was at the White House.

All this drama and theatrics are a republican construct.

This crap is being done on purpose.

The party in control of congress has bought us to this precipice just for show.

Now he takes the weekend off?

If the debt is such a crisis, why are these guys and their partisan parrots here OK not only with continuing it, but also with growing it further???

Do the math. It would take all discretionary spending cut, including all defense (and obviously we can't do that), to barely come out of deficit. So instead...we just keep adding to the debt. Consequences? Interest rates climb...and that means for us all, not just the Treasury.

It's gonna take increasing revenue, folks. Without taxes, we have more debt. Bottom line.

And therein lies the rub. There are lots of ways to increase revenue, but Obama is intent on only addressing one of them.

Musicmystery -> RE: Boner walks out, it must be the weekend (7/22/2011 4:05:30 PM)

House leadership isn't offering any of them.

You guys are just fucking insane.
