They dont want smaller government they only want certain parts of the country to be governed...everyone else but them. Cos they are the twue patwiots and they are the twue value of amewica. They have been sleeping for the past thirty years and now find their values arent popular, so they want to turn the clock back to before they fucked up.

The Republicans and Democrats and any other party had better want smaller govt or they're going to be playing one hell of a game of "musical chairs!"

Never presume that the career yahoos in Washington actually represent the majority of their constituents. I am personally appalled by this.

The single biggest driver of Government spending is WAR. WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Regan era-cold war spending, and the Bush II era Afghan and IRAQ wars each resulted in increased federal spending.

If the US wants a "smaller government" or to trim its budget, it will have to reduce defense spending which is now 2x more than the defense budgets of the next 10 ten nations combined.

If the US had not upped defense spending under Reagan -- and if the US had left Vietnam and IRAQ alone -- we'd be in better shape. If that money had been spent on public transportation and education -- we'd at least have dividend to show for the taxes collected in those instances.
