Raising the retirement age is a recipe for disaster. Too many companies are getting rid of older workers and refusing to hire them. Raising the contribution cut off is a much better idea. Many politicians also consider cutting benefits to medicare and medicaid a necessary evil. Medicare cuts will result in many elderly people who already choose between food and medication being unable to pay their rent and becoming homeless. Medicaid spending caps will result in nursing home patients being evicted once their spending caps are reached and disabled adults with chronic illnesses suffering slow painful deaths. This would cause riots and an all out war between the American people and the government. Cutting benefits in these areas is impossible because the result would be catastrophic.

Few more facts about how important social security is important to people in this terrible economy.
Social security has kept at least 20 million out of poverty, many people have lost their jobs and had to apply for social security at the age of 62, pushing the age up at this point in this economy, just means more people literally on the street.

Social Security keeps 20 million out of poverty

I have no issues with means testing, and the millions that get it should certainly not be entitled to it and send it back, like Cher says, but how many really do that???
hummmm

Cher says rich people should give social security BACK!

Social security benefits are modest, yet they keep almost half of all seniors out of poverty.

10 facts about social security

As we wait to find out if/when/and what "programs" get cut or changed, I hope the after effects do not turn America into a very, ugly, ugly country, that I cease to recognize anymore.
Time will tell.

Peace

Redistribution of wealth. The lefties answer to everything. Until there is no wealth left to transfer. Then you might actually have to think about viable solutions.

Personal responsibility.

What a concept...

And just like that, no one was ever poor, no one ever aged, no one ever got sick, and on one ever died.

Problem is, I didn't say that...I said it's going to take both cuts and tax increases, including cuts/adjustments to the big three.

You're the only who feels "personal responsibility" is a problem-solving policy.

Give everyone free money?
Excuse me, but what about the money we have been paying into social security for years?
I thought you had to contribute to social security to get it?

You and willb will be first in line to apply for social security, and probably sitting by the mailbox waiting on your social security check when the day comes.

[sm=2cents.gif]
Too bad, you and willb won't send the social security checks BACK.

Damn right Ill be applying for it. I was forced to pay into it, and my SS taxes were taken and substantially redistributed to lower income taxpayers...that means I should forego it completely? Its as stupid a statement as saying a Congressman is a hypocrite for condemning pork in legislation but also doing his best to get projects for his constituency.

Well thats alright "professor" because I never wrote that we need to push granny off of a cliff as you want to pretend in that simplistic little head of yours

Our spending levels are clearly outrageous and there is a lot of fat that can be cut, that needs to be cut before we can ever consider tax increases. Washington politicians only spend tax increases, they never put them towards the budget deficits, thats how it always works

Social Security was never supposed to use tax dollars, its supposed to have a seperate trust fund. For you and O'Bummer to try to use SS to scare folks into ever higher debt ceiling increases is about as low as leftists can go

But since politicians whose appetite for spending is like Michael Moores appetite for cheeseburgers, and have spent that trust fund... something will have to be done. Like eliminate a few thousand bird counters, and the Department of Education

And, and, and

Because our spending levels are unsustainable, and are ever increasing. Obama argued that as Senator, Hillary has recently warned that our levels of debt are a threat to national security

Personal responsibility and less government is the answer, its the guiding light. Its the proper philosophy...

Government spending is just like an addictive drug, both for the politicians who use it to buy votes and those who have grown dependent on these bloated budgets of ours

Time for the junkies to go to rehab and for the pushers supplies to be dried up

And I never said you did. You're making up stuff again. You don't have enough to argue otherwise.
quote:

Show us the numbers. Discretionary spending is $520 billion. No amount of fat is going to make those cuts total $1.27 trillion. As for spending, that's the point of a budget--when you consistently leave the unfunded spending in...yes, it gets spent. Taking it out and paying for the rest is how budgets are balanced. It's called mathematics.
quote:

Social Security was never supposed to use tax dollars,
Not true...I think you mean income tax/other tax dollars
quote:

its supposed to have a seperate trust fund. For you and O'Bummer to try to use SS to scare folks into ever higher debt ceiling increases is about as low as leftists can go
What bullshit. First, I'm doing no such thing. Second, both parties use scare tactics continually. Third, I'd rather scare you into facing fiscal reality instead of pretending it will all go away.
quote:

But since politicians whose appetite for spending is like Michael Moores appetite for cheeseburgers, and have spent that trust fund... something will have to be done.
Finally a true statement.
quote:

Like eliminate a few thousand bird counters, and the Department of Education
More silly symbolic gestures. Even cutting ALL discretionary spending won't come close to covering the deficit.
quote:

And, and, and

Because our spending levels are unsustainable, and are ever increasing. Obama argued that as Senator, Hillary has recently warned that our levels of debt are a threat to national security
So are Republicans. Don't you agree? Or do you think continually adding to an already sky high national debt is fine? I thought you were a conservative.
quote:

Personal responsibility and less government is the answer, its the guiding light. Its the proper philosophy...
It is, though, at least at the moment, empty words. Saying that, but following budget policies that allow a trillion to be added to the deficit is completely contradictory. If you're a conservative--wake up!
quote:

Government spending is just like an addictive drug, both for the politicians who use it to buy votes and those who have grown dependent on these bloated budgets of ours
And for the voters who buy the "tax cuts will magically pay for this" bull--it hasn't and isn't and isn't going to. It's time to end the fiscal fantasy--and a few token cuts are not going to do it. Mathematics.
quote:

Time for the junkies to go to rehab and for the pushers supplies to be dried up

Agreed. Write your political leaders and tell them to get fiscally responsible.

Wow, you're hyper-defensive.

That's an allusion to Cocoon. Nothing about death camps or granny's cliff, except in your paranoia.

The second quote, though, is dead on. It's going to take both cuts and tax increases, including cuts/adjustments to the big three--not magic.

mnottertail -> RE: Raising the age for Social Security? More Class Warfare against poor! (7/27/2011 6:57:45 AM)

Simple deal, we are spending about 35% more than we take in.   Everything gets cut by 35% whether it is discretionary or not, (fuck a bunch of law) and then nobody goes on social security, and nobody goes on medicare, anybody already on it gets cancer, fuck em...., close off any welfare, any body dies in one of our wars, and fuck those $255 burial payments and the free fuckin flag......and they don't fuckin eat, we cant afford to feed them soldiers.....let them plunder the countries they are in....and use their bullets as well while we are there, cuz we cant afford em.....

Then all we have to do is tell the people (here and abroad) we borrowed money from to take a fuckin hike we are not going to pay interest on that debt, take your E series savings bonds and use them for toilet paper, you fuckin socialists.

But we will give you your principle back....and guess what?  We are still in fuckin debt.  We are not even running in place.....

Some of you people need to wake the fuck up and listen to the only two real republicans on this board, MusicMystery and I.

It is what is on the cart, kiddies.  There is foolishness afoot here.

You left out repetitive. Must be something in Alinsky about repeating the same lies over and over again.

mnottertail -> RE: Raising the age for Social Security? More Class Warfare against poor! (7/27/2011 8:49:24 AM)

Well, it is a habit that you are the best example of out here, Wilbur-Trotsky, in fact, not only do you repeat the same old lies, you occasionally render spanish communists works as examples of extolling the works of great capitalism.
