i owned an Arabian stallion that was extremely well trained, especially in his ground manners. I bought him from a bitch who used him excusively as a teasing stud for her Walker mares, because he was so well behaved. He'd get the mares all worked up with gentle nuzzling, etc., and then she'd take him away and her (basically) untrained Walker stallion would, pretty much, race in and rape them. It was pretty horrific. But, if i were to base my breed preference solely on the experiences i had with that stupid woman, i'd love Arabians and think Walkers were stupid untrainable beasts. I also worked briefly on an Arabian farm (Locust farms). They're, without question, beautiful horses. I just remember the trainer walking in one day while one of my co-workers was holding the ear of one of the horses-can't remember why...he wasn't twisting it or anything, but the trainer freaked out, yelling "these Arabians are crazy enough without you pulling on their ears!". I was pretty young so that sort of left the impression with me that Arabians were a bit nutty. The stallion i had helped to dispel that notion, though. You wouldn't even know he was a stallion unless you looked underneath. If we were out riding and someone else had a mare, occasionally he'd get a bit excited-remember he'd been teasing mares for years without any release, so you can't really blame him-but all you had to do was say, "put it away, Pre" and he usually would. Even if he did try to mount a mare, he'd only put one leg up and sort of wait..I guess because he was used to being stopped at that point. What a great horse he was. The lady I sold him to gelded him to use him for lessons, so as far as i know he never got lucky that one last time :-(
