why do you mother feel the need to belong to a group?

Why do some kinky people feel the need to go to a munch every month? [:D]

Are people who believe themselves to be kinky and who don't go to munches and fetish events less kinky? [:D]

I'm at a loss as to how judging the OP based on Bible passages that say what they want to hear while ignoring the inconvenient one's is deep. It seems about the opposite to me.

who is to say one is inconvenient and another is not? Inconvenient to you perhaps. The problem with using bible quotes is the majority of the time they are taken out of context. To understand the full meaning behind them you have to understand the entire bible, the passages before and after and the history of the times in which they were written.

No one quote is right or wrong. The interpretations however could be.

And a good reason for attending church..to understand the passages and the bible and history from a theology graduate.

You know, as odd as it sounds, I actually AGREE with the idea behind what you said here. Learning about the passages from someone who has actually spent the time to learn and study them makes a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, I have yet to meet a pastor, priest, or reverend who was willing to actually DISCUSS the bible in a way that was not meant to only further their own means ( in other words, what I say is the truth and you should not question it ).

By way of an answer I offer the following quote :

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo"    Karl Marx

And I offer this little story :

Once when the missionary E. Stanley Jones met with Gandhi he asked him, “Mr. Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower?”

Gandhi replied, “Oh, I don’t reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

There you go two reasons "God(s)" and Church are not one and the same, I have many more but being the militant apatheist I am I'll leave it at those two"

P.S. Fro the edification of those not familiar with the term, APATHEIST, can best be defined as "Don't know, Don't give a shit"

Littlewonder, I'm an atheist so the only passages that are inconvenient for me are the ones that convince some christians to continually try and convert or oppress me.

I recently heard an interview by Dr. Price of the Jesus seminar where he described their collabertive effort to determine if Jesus actually said the various quotes attributed to him using critical scholarship. They came up with a no for 85% of the material attributed to him.

Unfortunatly the actual context of the Bibles passages is that they were written and embellished by multiple sources who were not even close to being on the same page and that the mental gymnastics used by apologists and some preachers to try and unite the bible into a coherant document are ridiculous.
