ncmike820 -> What is the difference between a Dominate Women and Mistress? (7/25/2011 1:11:46 PM)

I am pretty much new to all of this. I am looking for a dominate woman, but see ads for Mistresses. Is there a difference or are they the same?

Thanks

Whoa... just have to say.. damn Mike... wish I were in the market...

ok... fanning myself...

sometimes, women who are professional use the term "mistress" ... sometimes women who are not also use that word.. I don't... but some do... some also call themselves, and are, dominant (please note, you dominate someone; you are dominant)... they are, in many ways, words that are subsets of one another...

the terms are fairly generic...

Yes grammar...

You're looking for a dominant woman I guess, not being a native speaker, I would say to dominate is an action, the person who does so is dominant...

There is a difference in My personal opinion.

A Dominant woman is someone that I usually associate as someone who wishes to enter a dynamic with a submissive.  A Mistress is more often wanting a dynamic with a slave.  Depending on a person's definition of each, there may be a greater amount of control or authority in M/s than D/s.  These things are very individual, so this doesn't mean to say that you won't find certain D/s dynamics that really have *more* authority, power, and control than some folks using the M/s terms.

Edited because of a wild insta post in the middle of writing that was not intended.

Interesting! I think of myself as being a sexually Dominant female, yet as Mistress only to my own subs.

Try to speak English properly if you can, Mike. It's embarrassing if foreigners can speak English better than natives speakers. "Dominant", not "dominate".

Yes, I am a Dominant female (sometimes termed Domme but please do not pronounce that to rhyme with home, or as Domm-ay or worse still, Do me!), another term is Domina. When I find that perfect sub/slave (and I am probably looking for someone who crosses between those 2 categories as often defined here), I intend to be his Mistress. For Me, Mistress denotes a closeness approaching ownership.

For some reason whenever I see someone refer to a dominant woman as a dominate woman... I automatically ignore them.  I know dominant women hate this as well.  It seems to be such a common issue all around

MistrixMsE -> RE: What is the difference between a Dominate Women and Mistress? (7/28/2011 1:23:00 PM)

My take..
I am a dominant woman in every aspect of my life. It is who I am, in public, private, business, and personal relationships... its just who I am as a person. I am a domina in a 'kink' sense.

In scene/lifestyle connotation, I personally detest the word Mistress, it denotes an over familiarity for someone to call me that whom I have not met, especially since it is traditionally used to designate the sex partner of a sexually cheating member of a committed relationship. Its ok for others if they like it, but my title is Mistrix for a reason... thank you very much.

For those curious, I used Mistrix before finding that it had been proposed prior to the designation Ms as a title pertaining to any female without regard to marital status. I liked it even more after discovering this. I am glad it didnt take though..... since I prefer being the only one of my kind. (Kind of like Highlander lol)

yeah m4a, no shit!! this guy's going to be popular around here if he doesn't fuck up!

ok hunkalicious, here's the deal. "mistress" is just a stupid title some dominant women give themselves. it really doesn't mean a fucking thing. the ones who call themselves "goddess" on the other hand, laugh and move on, they have some major fucking issues.

I've met dominants (male and female) in both camps:  those who use titles and those who don't use titles.  There is no steadfast rule.  Each person is unique.  However, I'll add, if someone comes across as an impolite, domineering whack-job, chances are your spider sense is correct. :-)

Hey now my mother NAMED me after a Goddess! Not that I'll disclose my full name here or anything... but I oughta get a little damn leeway.[:D]

The ones that irritate me at the ones who call themselves princess... got daddy issues much? [8|]

I think of myself as being a Dominant woman.

Mistress, to me, is a theatrical term reserved for play. It is a term I'm unlikely to use.

HoneyedMistress -> RE: What is the difference between a Dominate Women and Mistress? (7/31/2011 11:29:08 AM)

I use the title in my screen name, but I don't use the title "Mistress" in my personal relationships. For me at least it is associated more with my professional dealings. But every woman is different and for each of us it has a slightly different meaning. I also actually rather like "Goddess" but I'm also very into spiritual sexuality & goddess worship...and if anyone other than my pet tried to call me that I'd probably do a [sm=ugh.gif]

FR

'Mistress' is OK, though a bit embarrassing, 'Domme' or 'femdom' is preferable; 'Goddess' is only applicable to femdoms/Dommes who have really good wiggly arses.

I hope that clears everything up.

OP
the take-home message is that what "Mistress" means to one woman, will mean something completely different to another.  Ask how she wishes to be addressed, and don't assume that someone calling herself "Mistress" automatically means what you've read it does.  When working public events, I use "Sir" "Ma'am or Madam" and I assure you, if they wish to be called something else, they've never had any issue telling me.  I do not call anyone "Master" "Mistress" etc. unless they've explicitly asked to be addressed that way.

And for the record, I know a local pro-Domme who uses the title "Princess" as a part of her name....and she is lovely.
