Willbur, I think you are confusing months with years. Obama was sworn in to the Senate in January 2005 and resigned in November 2008.

I hate to admit this, but I dipped my fries in almost everything imaginable, even before I had attained any awareness as to how un-Amercan it was to do so or having any political awareness at all. He started his (unoffical) campaign for POTUS in mid 05. Actually it began with his DNC speech in 04, but he had to win the Senate seat first. Im not confused about anything.
