Bill o'reilly is now accusing the "Liberal media" of labeling Breivik a Christian, because they don't like Christians. What an idiot, Breivik labeled himself a Christian, the media just reported it. That is what O'Reilly and his Fox news cronies don't get; there is a difference between ranting and reporting.

When it comes to a terrorist act, all too many people who are afraid they may be implicated in the act, even though they may actually have had nothing to do with it materially, use the "No True Scotsman" argument.

Example: Someone who identifies themselves as "pro-life" sets a bomb at a medical clinic. It explodes and kills several people. The bomber is identified and tells police and the press that they are "pro-life" and members of "Operation Rescue" - and "pro-life" people and “Operation Rescue” immediately announce: "No true "pro-life" person would bomb a medical clinic. The bomber is a crazy nut-case and definitely not "Pro-Life'".

Example: A white person randomly shots and kills a black man. When he is arrested, he tells police and the press he is a white supremacist Neo-Nazi, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a life-long member of the John Birch Society and the local district chairman of the Republican Party (all of which are independently verified by the police and the press). American conservatives immediately announce: "No true Republican district Chairman would do something like this. The shooter must be a leftist liberal and part of an organized international plot to smear all conservatives."

Example: A group of extremist animal rights people break into a research laboratory and release all the rabbits and rats being used to test potential harmful effects of a proposed new type of eye makeup. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) immediately announces that: "These people have no affiliation with our organization. No true animal rights person would commit breaking and entering and theft - even to save animals."

Status: offline 		Well, you saw all the "Muslim terrorist!" shouting that was going on over Friday evening, didn't you? I think a few people on the right are a bit embarrassed that Breivik turned out to be one of theirs rather than a jihadist.
(Of course, like Bill, some of them have a funny way of showing it...)

Then when he realized it was the exact opposite,he slithered away under a rock like a coward.


Like billow,AZBboy can`t possibly imagine a Christian doing things like this.


I like FlightDeiecto`s point that conservative "deep thinkers" like billow believe it impossible that someone Christian could do such things.

Of course this implies that Muslims by nature are inherently able/willing to commit terrorists acts.

In some ways it`s as if the radical-conservatives are more disappointed that the nutter is Christian than with the killings themselves.

Beivik is no Christian.

Let me explain that.

There is nothing in the bible, specifically the NT, that could possibly justify his crimes.

Having said that, he self identified as Christian.

From my POV this puts him in exactly the same boat as AQ.

Self identifying and actually walking the talk are two completely different things.......

There are people on all sides of the political divide that I respect, and will engage with, and listen to, and can have a meaningful exchange and discussion.  We don't even have to agree.

They are people who display a certain level of humanity and common-sense.

It doesn't mean we can't or won't have heated debates, but there is a reservoir of good-will.  They don't get their jollies from stamping on everyone, all of the time (well, most of them, anyway).

Philo meets all of those criteria.  So do several other liberal and even lefty posters.  UtopianRanger and I use to have some really good discussions.  Owner59, I consider a friend.  Ron is a hardnosed SOB that gives me no quarter, but is fair about it.  rulemylife, I even kinda like, most of the time.  There are others.

You, however, the gom jabber would kill.

What you dont understand is that Brevik's actions have absolutely fucking nothing to do with being a Christian. The NYT headline implies it did. Theres a difference between reporting and HONEST reporting, and the NYT has lost sight of it.
