Now, take a breath and realise something did change and it was an important change: the drug did not change PA.
What did change was that it went from being uncontrolled to controlled and in pill form to then being first available on the streets, "black market" pharmaceuticals to next being manufactured with readily available medications and household chemicals and people could smoke, snort and inject as much as they wanted. The more people exposed, the greater potential for addicted brains. This drug depletes a person's brain of all kids of neurotransmitters and to get yourself feeling right again you need the drug.

So, meth did not get stronger and brain chemistry didn't change but there were more people who became addicted to it and it became a supply/demand issue.

The stuff that is cooked up is not the same thing as the RXs.   It is more potent and more dangerous.

The lady in the 10 year marriage was educated and should have figured this out sooner then 10 years.

A lot of drunks are,....really funny in their addiction and you can usually smell the booze on them all the time.
Druggies aren't funny and are just assholes who'll rip you off and try to steal your stuff.
You can be a drunk on a $10 a day drinking cheap, $10 a gallon whiskey or vodka. That's about 10 minutes work if you have "a good corner" in a city.
You need what, $100 per day or more to be a druggy a lot of which you steal.

Sure she should have known..not sure how she could not. It's a distinct smell, theyr'e usually extremely hyper and just the physical wear and tear on the body is different but it could just be that she's very naive about drug users of any kind whereas I've seen it and lived with it numerous times.

No, it is more dangerous because of contaminants, but not necessarily more potent. The best producers of methamphetamine, PCP, LSD in any form or lysergic acid which is close, or any refined version of mescaline do profit because their product is good. People get a buzz and do not die. For those who have not been in business, I can tell you that live customers pay better than dead ones.

I have seen setups you would not believe, clean rooms in people's basements damnear. Exhaust through the chimney, intake, negative air pressure all the time. (regulated) Safety precautions like fire extinguishers and expressed SPECIFIC rules about anyone who is priveledged to visit. No smoking even. Don't kid youself, these people are serious about their business, after all they're probably making three or four times what willbe makes. And they pay no taxes. You TAKE CARE of a gig like that. I don't have the money or the balls to set anything like that up.

But now we get to the customers. That was the topic here right ? Many people do many things, and you can tell when someone smokes pot or drinks, you can smell it. Well to that I say you should've smelled it when you met them. Of all the fucking things I think I know, this is the most promising : PEOPLE WILL NOT CHANGE FOR YOU. Get that through your head.

I drink, and I smoke some, less than before but if I want to burn sixty joints a day and you don't like it, there's the fucking door. I haven't done coke in any form in about a year, probably more, but if I decide to, and have the money to blow about a few hundred worth, I hope you would join me, and if you don't, I won't twist your arm but I don't want you recoiling away from me. This is a part of me. Take it or leave it.

Now if someone blows their future over addiction that is a different story, because some people have an interest in that future, and in that case the type of addiction matters not. Gambling is legal in alot of places and it has caused as much funancial hardship as any drug. It is still not against the law, illegal means shit to me. They busted a bunch of old geezers playing pinochle for a penny a point down in Florida a long time ago for gambling. I would not be competent to stand trial because there is no way in hell I could stop laighing. Fuck them. But then why are state lotteries legal ?

But drugs are a different story. Now remember how I avoid doctors ? Well this is the same thing. If you are a compulsive gambler I will take your money All of it. Get this through your head. If I decide to sell drugs (very unlikely for alot of reasons), what you do with them is your business. And if I am your brother in law and we do a couple of lines of coke, how would I know that you went out after and did a couple more limrs with Tom, Dick and Harry, and Sven, Tyrone and the Mongoose ? And George and Mike and Chris, and Frank and Heidi and Jack ?

That's your fucking problem when it comes to roost. Most of my people can handle it, the rest are dead. Not by my doing BTW, by their own.

You don't bet the rent, the drug money cannot be spent. YOU STOP. Go to bed. Got an olady ? Get a piece of ass. The day is done, the song is over, get over it. That is what an adult does. An adult can imbibe in this shit and then get on with business. To do otherwise is foolish and PROOF of immaturity.

YES, the OP picked an asshole. Thought it would grow up but that didn't happen.

NEXT. Move on. His famliy is not worth having around because look at the results in him. I wouldn't want them anywhere near my kids.

I would be, if I'd said that. But I didn't, so I'm not.

Could you please, for the love of all that's good, engage your other brain cell so you have some chance of understanding; I stated methamphetamine was used during WWII, you said it wasn't. I presented evidence, time after time ... while you just sat there, sucking your thumb and shouting "T'ISN'T TWUE!", while all the time not grasping the difference between methamphetamine and amphetamine (which yes, was also used during WWII, but that wasn't what I said either - take another 10 demerits on reading comprehension 101). Now; take a deep breath, think slowly and clearly, and realise You Are Wrong About That. Not "partially incorrect", not "not wholly correct" - you're just plain wrong.

I've seen you do this so many times; attempt to browbeat people and, when they won't give in to your juvenile bullying and rattle throwing and instead present evidence, you then try to squirm out of the situation by changing your position, or moving the goalposts. Hint: that won't work on anyone of even average intelligence and, further, it makes you look like a clown.

I think all you can do is try to have (and I realise this won't be easy) as calm and quiet a conversation with her as you possibly can (in as neutral and quiet and calm a situation/place), pointing up the fact she's angry for a reason, and try to get her to see that blaming others for her own mistakes isn't going to help either her, or the situation.

One thing is clear; my word you're a good friend to have :) A lot of people would have bailed by now, but similarly, just as she refused (and is refusing) to see the truth, so there's only so much you can do too.

I hope it works out for you - you strike me as a decent person trying to do the decent thing. But you can only lead a horse to water ... what happens after that is not your responsibility, or fault for that matter.

Welcome to life. You know I just pondered a nypothetical situation, and I mean REALLY hypothetical ! Whoever is your crowd, your family, chosen family or whatever, you still sitting in that same spot.

How did they come to you, you didn't come to them, most likely. How did they find you ?

This is going to get thick quick.

You didn't say so much about your own life being fucked up with these people gone. OK so it is, but the main concern is the kids. Replace these people now, so to keep them on an even keel. The entertainment factor and all that, or did they have a drawer of Brach's like my Granparents did ? If so, it is a bit harder to fight. When an adult gets ahold of good Brach's, they may kill for it. Imagine what a kid would do!

Children are MADE of experiences. Repeated experiences are important, but no matter what any asshole says, DIFFERENT experiences are more important. So you just drown these people the fuck out their minds. If they ciome back, well then they do, but I would put their tit throuigh the ringer before I would ever let a fucking "family" that abandoned their Grandkids back into the fucking house. Tell you what, keep n eye on the silverware. Kids are a whole different thing than anything else and I can tell you EXACTLY how people use them to steal and extort, and even kill and maim. People are not my favorite people these fucking days to say the fucking least.

Define this conversation, you want me to tell you more or not ?

Based upon my own personal experience, most alcoholics are major assholes. They've also been known to steal to support their addiction.

Don't be a fool and think otherwise.

Agreed. You get the odd high functioning one, or the odd one who actually appreciates they have a problem, and is grateful when people try to help (a mate of mine falls into this category, and thankfully he's over the worst now, and has been for some 5 years, but of course there's always the chance of backsliding, but he knows that), but for the most part they're highly unpleasant, selfish individuals.

Example; a friend of the family was married to this guy who, when he wasn't on the sauce, was just about the nicest chap you could wish to meet. Trouble is, as time passed, he wasn't sober, ever, and drunk he was evil personified - I had to thump him during one family barbecue after he got shit-faced, then decided to beat his wife up in front of their 2 young kids and about 40 guests, most of whom were pretty much rooted to the spot in a mixture of shock and fear (he was an enormous motherfucker, but the rule generally is when a drunk man fights a sober, trained man, then the sober man generally wins). They built a really successful company together, and then he drank and gambled the lot away within the space of 2 years, including embezzling money from said company. A real charmer. She's got herself and her family together now, set up another business, and is doing just fine, but there's a decade of her life that's like a black hole to her, with no light or joy whatsoever ... she says it was only her kids, and looking out for them, that kept her even semi-sane. Smashing lady.

I'd also be wary of lumping all drug users into the "druggy" bin, as Popeye did. The traditional image of a skanky, sunken-eyed, wallet-seeking missile doesn't apply to many drug users, particularly ones with habits like gak/powder coke, for example, or prescription meds - some of them are staggeringly high functioning, with good jobs that don't require them to steal in order to fund their habit, and it's only right at the end of their addiction cycle, when they're taking Keef-esque amounts of Peruvian Marching Powder, that they start to come apart at the seams.

Bottom line is; addiction is addiction, and they'll all usually destroy you unless you deal with them. The only variable is how long it takes and how many people you take with you.
