Oh, I made it up there all by myself to try it out, Lucy.  It's cool.  Big text, scrolling along at the right delivery speed, no need to break eye contact with audience, or distract them by shuffling cards or sheets of paper, and all they see is a clear panel of glass.

Unless I've got 50-1500 people watching me give a speech though, it doesn't count as having "worked" with one.

Can we have one of the less silly conservatives please explain to us all what all the fuss is over teleprompters?

It's just another one of those bright and shiny objects that deflects and distracts from real issues of actual importance. While you are scratching your head over why some people don't like the Prez using teleprompters, you won't think to question how many folks will be put out of work from not getting to operate teleprompters.

See how that works?

Last time I gave a speech/session I had an overhead projector to help and still turned it into a comedy sketch...

While we have many more problems than worth noting here to deal with, Sen. Bachmann has decided one thing should trump all others: Those Evil Machines of the Devil.....The Teleprompter! I think its reasonable to now have this lady throughly tested......physically, mentally, emotionally, spirtually, and yes....loyality! Since she seems the only one (and her band of followers) that would like the nation to explode and/or meltdown. Maybe we should see if she's still an American......

Bachmann isn't a senator, she's a congresswoman.

Those notes on her hand made Sarah look like a red neck. That is just my opinion, however.

School-girlish is what it was. Was she preparing for an important examine she felt she hadn't studied for adequately? Hell, I never wrote on my hand even when I didn't study and I had two kids when I went to college.

She could have just had the notes on cards at her chair.

The questioner was reading from notes.

Could have done a better job of cribbing though.

Could it be that the Palin's star is fading as the Bachmann show gets into hyper-mode?

Now that Palin has added box office disaster to failed reality TV star and occasional Governor of Alaska on her CV, have her adoring fans deserted her for Michelle en masse? Or, like moths to a flame, are they just naturally attracted to the fruitiest loop in town?

I got a whole book full of 'Bushisms' with plenty more juicy stuff that our 'beloved' former President was fond of saying. Makes good speechs? Yeah, comedians didn't have to work hard for eight years to come up with material. In fact, they STILL dont have to work hard, thanks to the GOP three years after Bush left office!

Even Bruce Springsteen used a teleprompter in concert (I was there and saw it)

You are a moron because the lie the far left freaks wrote above had nothing to do with how presidents sometimes misspeak

The lie was that Bush could not read a teleprompter

O'Bummer misspeaks too, just so that you know

Unless there really are 57 states, etc

nice to know that she has the worlds most prominent problems on her agenda for her shoo in presidency
but president obachmann??
god help you

No kidding.

As a fiscally conservative person who tends to vote Republican...

(yes there are gay Republicans) because I understand (from Economics 101) that one can't spend more than one earns

...Hearing "President Bachman" literally makes my skin crawl. I am so sick and tired of the far-religious right controlling the direction of the Republican party.

Republicans need to get back to their roots where the emphasis is on responsible spending, balancing the budget, keeping the federal government as small as possible and realizing that religion needs to be like masturbation--practiced regularly in private but never spoken of publically.

Right wing conservatives aren't allowed in the seven higher states.

Obama has been censured in the council for allowing it to slip.

So, are you claiming that what he said is actually what was on the teleprompter?

If so, a speech writer should have had his ass FIRED.

He either could read a teleprompter or he couldn't. If he COULD, the speechwriter was a fucking idiot. Evidence points to "couldn't"

Well, that's why there was all the amused gloating about pictures of the chimp with what looked a receiver under his jacket and an earpiece, isn't it?

That's pretty funny, even for a play to the lowest common denominator.  It's not the thing, but the manner of its use, and what you can learn about the person behind it when the damn thing breaks down.

I've never worked with one, but earlier in my life, I did a lot of public speaking.  Down at the Reagan Museum, one of the interactive exhibits is a podium set-up, with a teleprompter, running Reagan's first inaugural.  Compared to memorization, which is a time-consuming pain in the ass, having the printed text on paper in front of you, which has to be monitored to keep your place, and on the right page, or working extemporaneously from outlines or bullet points, which can lead to easy gaffes with what isn't there, I'd have to say it's a wonderful invention.

Adding to the list of things you've "done". lol
