Well, to be fair, she'll also ban curly-que lightbulbs.

Part of the Republican plan to save money by using more energy.

She has a long history of focusing on the unimportant:

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/michele-bachmanns-holy-war-20110622

In 2003, after the Massachusetts Supreme Court issued its famous ruling permitting gay marriage, Bachmann proposed an amendment to the Minnesota constitution banning gay marriage — despite the fact that the state legislature had already passed a law making same-sex unions illegal. Even the politicians who were sufficiently gay-phobic to have passed the original anti-marriage law were floored by the brazen pointlessness of Bachmann's bill. "It's unnecessary, it's redundant, it's duplicative," said Assistant Senate Majority Leader Ann Rest.

The episode was classic Bachmann, whose political strategy throughout her career has mostly revolved around having her Little House on the Never-Existed Fundamentalist Prairie sensibilities rocked by something she has read (or misread) in the news, then immediately proposing a horseshit, total-waste-of-everybody's-time legislative action in response. In 2009, after she saw a news story about the Chinese calling on the world to abandon the dollar as its reserve currency, Bachmann somehow took this to mean that the Obama administration might force ordinary Americans to abandon their familiar green dollar bills for some international and no doubt atheist currency. To combat this possibility, Bachmann introduced a resolution to "bar the dollar from being replaced by any foreign currency." Even after the gaffe was made public, Bachmann pressed on, challenging Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to "categorically renounce the United States moving away from the dollar." Imagine Joe McCarthy dragging Cabinet members into hearings and demanding that they publicly disavow the works of Groucho Marx, and you get a rough idea of the general style of Bachmannian politics.

Has anyone else figured that maybe she wants to ban teleprompters because she might have a hard time reading?

Lucylastic -> RE: president o'bachman will ban teleprompters (7/27/2011 10:46:58 AM)

we live in interesting times

joether -> RE: president o'bachman will ban teleprompters (7/27/2011 10:52:52 AM)

While we have many more problems than worth noting here to deal with, Sen. Bachmann has decided one thing should trump all others: Those Evil Machines of the Devil.....The Teleprompter! I think its reasonable to now have this lady throughly tested......physically, mentally, emotionally, spirtually, and yes....loyality! Since she seems the only one (and her band of followers) that would like the nation to explode and/or meltdown. Maybe we should see if she's still an American......

mnottertail -> RE: president o'bachman will ban teleprompters (7/27/2011 10:58:26 AM)

This is typical of the rightist in their quest for big government, wanting to invade private freedoms, and in the process destroy free enterprise and competition, bankrupting companies.

It's what they do, it's what they know, it's what they stand for.

More TOS.....teleprompter obsession syndrome....

What is it with cons and teleprompters?

I don`t get it.What`s the problem? What`s the issue?

Can we have one of the less silly conservatives please explain to us all what all the fuss is over teleprompters?

They find it offensive that the kenyan can read from one, as the chimp wasn't capable of doing that.
hence: teleprompters are an evil liberal thing, that discriminates against the Republican heartland of people who believe in Intelligent Design.

Good one moonhead.

I would like to know tho.Really, not kidding. All the times the sanitizer posted about President Obama as well as some of the other con-radicals here and there.

To this day I still don`t know what the rub is.Why is this at all an issue?

What are they trying to imply?

This seems so innocuous and irrelevant but for some,it`s this huge issue.

I could be wrong but I think RR used them and every president since Reagan.

That might be true in far left fantasy land

In bizzarro world, where up is down and the truth is unknowable and unknown

But here in reality Bush was often very good with his speeches, and he often received standing ovations from both sides of the aisle in Congress

And he could speak off the cuff as well

That's pretty funny, even for a play to the lowest common denominator.  It's not the thing, but the manner of its use, and what you can learn about the person behind it when the damn thing breaks down.

I've never worked with one, but earlier in my life, I did a lot of public speaking.  Down at the Reagan Museum, one of the interactive exhibits is a podium set-up, with a teleprompter, running Reagan's first inaugural.  Compared to memorization, which is a time-consuming pain in the ass, having the printed text on paper in front of you, which has to be monitored to keep your place, and on the right page, or working extemporaneously from outlines or bullet points, which can lead to easy gaffes with what isn't there, I'd have to say it's a wonderful invention.
