I'm trying this and hoping it works. The point is to make positive, sharing statements about what you believe (religion, philosophy), in answer to a question asked; and/or to ask a question.

Here are examples of what I am hoping for (YES) and what I am hoping does not happen (NO):
YES:
Question: What do you believe about Jesus?
Answer: I believe he was a human prophet that lived a long time ago.

NO:
Question: Why do all you Catholics have your head up your arse thinking Jesus is God?
Answer: Screw you! You don't even believe in Jesus at all. Who are you to judge.

Neither of those answers, or the No question, reflect my own beliefs or attitudes, by the way. I do not believe religion is something to debate or argue over. To bring hatred into it is to dishonor everyone involved. The sharing of ideas, so as to understand each other, maybe so as to learn, is very good, though.

So, when I ask you what you believe, I want to hear what you believe. It is not to judge, it is not to compare, it is only to listen to and consider.

Please be respectful of this, and, please try not to cuss, as, while I have yet to meet a religion where not cussing was a sin, I have met several persons of various religious groups that believe cussing is a sin.

To start:

What do you believe about how the Earth was created?

Is that as in the Creationist 7 actual days of 24 hours, just like our weeks? Or, some other way of believing God created?

I believe that how the Earth was created is scientific, not divine. I believe, though, that everything in existence, including science, is ultimately divine. I believe that it's arrogant for us, as mere humans, to think we can explain in mere words that ultimate divinity. And I believe that it is our goal, and ultimately our downfall, to try.

I've actually had thoughts like that. I mean, not exactly, but, there are things that science can now do, that people have written about being done in the past and they were called magic or miracles. So, in effect, the scientists either rediscovered how to do the old thing, or, they discovered a different way to get relatively the same result.

I read, in a scientific journal somewhere, that everything needed to make anything possible is in the air around us So, if we knew the right formula, and, had eyes that could see well enough and hands that could hold onto the tiny little elements, we could add them together and create anything we needed.

And, that anything could be loaves and fishes, or, an endless supply of oil, to see us through a rough time. In other words, science has proven that miracles can happen.

Though, science, like anything else pretty much, can be used for great evil, as well as great good. I have a friend who makes posts to remind us of this, on another site, by reporting about horrible experiments done to lab animals and such.

I believe that Jesus was a pretty good guy who tried to show people that being good to each other, being supportive and non-violent was a great way to live. That's really it.

I don't believe in a 'higher being' or 'god' or any of that stuff. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm a scientist and I'm confident that as time goes on, the stuff we see as 'miracles' and 'holy' these days will be explained in a logical, scientific way.

I don't understand why people believe, but then again I have no problem with those that do. I was once described by a pastor I knew as being "the most christian atheist I've ever met". I took it as a compliment, and to say that I try to live by the ideas that Jesus brought, without believing in all the religious hooha that derived from it.

When you die, your atoms and your energy dissipates and becomes part of some other thing. Nothing mysterious, just cosmic recycling.

As for consciousness - I believe that dies with you, which is why you make the most of life while you have it.

Question - every generation lives a little longer than the previous one, at least in developed countries. Do you think there is a limit to the length of time we will live? If so, what will those limiting factors be?

i think the question has to be a religious one.

i believe that humans are genetically programmed to have their bodies break down with age and eventually die. i believe that if all other factors (such as disease and trauma) are eliminated, the factor limiting longevity will be genetics.

What do you believe about the soul?

It's true! It's not just humans though. It's called apoptosis and scientists are trying to figure out how it works. If they can do so, the implications are staggering. Not only could it imply potential immortality, but it could also help discover how to kill cancer cells in a more focused manner than is currently available. (The current treatments kill both healthy and malignant cells.)

As to your question. I believe we have one. :) Sorry...perhaps someone else would be better off answering. I'm going to bed. :)

The soul is a difficult concept. According to "the book" whichever it is for you, most of them seem to claim that we have one, but animals don't. I find that hard to believe. If the souls is borne of intelligence, then do the brain dead lack one ? I know there is potential for a joke there but I will refrain from taking advantage of it. We need a soul to feel ? What about your pets greeting you when you get home ? (again, resist the temptation here).

I don't have a big problem with the seven day thing as I believe it is a non issue. How long were days ? We call a day the time it takes the planet to make one revolution. Before there was a planet a day could mean anything. In fact if a big ball of space debris or whatever came together to form this planet, conservation of energy laws would indicate that the rotation rate was much slower before the whole thing "came together".

And if there is intelligence in the universe, it could be called "God", but I would think the universe as the entire being of which we are a part. That would make "God" much more omnipotent than any religion describes. And I don't think "God" or whatever micromanages.

I believe everything has a soul. A rock has a soul, and therefore, is spiritually connected to every thing else. Since everything has a soul and is spiritually connected, anything that is known, everyone can know.

I believe years of supposed civilization (along with organized religion), has buried most humans spiritual and psychic instincts so deeply they are all but forgotten.

If you can learn to tap into this spiritual consciousness, you can overcome all odds and achieve great things. I believe this was the original purpose of spiritual ritual -- a means and method to tap into our collective spiritual consciousness.

You have to answer a religious or philosophical question, and then ask a different one for the next person to answer. Do you think that most people are predominantly good or bad?

Ah okay, somehow I missed the ask a question part.

Do you believe in reincarnation and the collective spiritual consciousness?

As to your question, G, I believe people are fundamentally what their thoughts make them. So think bad evil things, you are evil. Think good positive things, you are good.

(Reasons to learn how to control your negative thoughts !)

I guess I have to say I think most people are good most of the time. None of us ever manage to completely eradicate our negative thoughts. Do we?

There is an argument about whether the life (or soul) of an animal is worth more than a human's if that animal is a thinking being and the human is not. I wish I could remember where it was from - Peter Singer, I think. It's an interesting discussion.

Good. I think nobody wakes up in the morning and says "I'm going to be a dick today." There are reasons people act the way they do - fear, mostly, of a million different things. No, I don't believe in reincarnation. I believe we are getting one shot at this. It isn't what we think, but what we do, that defines us. I have from birth to death to get it right. I don't get a second shot at it in physical form. When this body takes it's last breath, My trial period is over. At that point, I will be judged on My merits alone.

As for a question, I'll go with an easy one. If you met your maker today, what is the one question that you would want answered?
