A few of them have got in trouble for doing that in airport lavatories, if memory serves...

I hate these "we're better than those other people" kind of studies. Of course, they never come out and say it that way, but that is what it amounts to. It is an early step down a very dark path.

In my experience both liberals and conservatives are closed minded... thay are just closed minded about different things. I do find liberal closed-mindedness a little more annoying, though, because liberals love to walk around proclaiming how open minded thay are. You expect conservatives to be closed minded about some things because that's the whole point of being a conservative. "This is the way we do things because this is the way we've always done things, damnit!"

As far as the capacity for love goes, no group has a monopoly on that and belief that another group lacks the capacity for love is another step down that dark path.

Marc,

I hear you, but take some exception to some of what you are saying.

Primarily, that none of the studies quoted place a value-judgment or say "all".  They discuss facts and trends.  No one is saying that "liberals can't love" or "conservatives can't hate".  Just that in the aggregate, it appears that conservatives are more opened-minded about accepting a potential partner who may disagree with their own political views.

We could argue about your conclusion that conservatives are - by default - "closeminded" as well, but that is gist for another thread, perhaps.

Back to the OP, however ... it's perhaps a biased sample, but I've often seen profiles in which "conservative politics" are a hard limit, or in which some conservative belief is stated, and the profile then states that "if you believe that, don't even bother contacting me".

On the other hand, I have also seen a few profiles in which the individual says something along the lines of "atheists stay away", but that is much more uncommon, and not necessarily about politics, and even when I see it, usually much more polite and conditional.

Firm
