OK lets get this straight. Feelings aside the stupid cunt should not have made the comment to me or ANYONE. To do so is a violation of my privacy and plain out fucking rude. Secondly by definition of the state of Iowa DHS i do NOT receive welfare because i am not on TANF nor FIP (cash assistance). Thirdly i do not give a damn who thinks what that would have been embarrassing for anyone. It would have been as if someone walked up and she said "another herpes lady". That is wrong! It should be a written reprimand at least! End of story is the bitch gets away with it basically but i come away with possibly better health professionals who have hopefully updated their professionalism courses. Thanks to those who clarified why the stigma though. Just assumed it was always a stupid joke about women popping out babies to stay on cash assistance.

I work in the mental health field and we have to follow HIPPA regulations. We are not permitted to talk about a client even to other staff who is not involved with that client's treatment and recovery plan. I work full time for one agency and do respite care for another agency several weekends a month. Recently, I took a young girl for the weekend who got up in the morning and left the house. Later, she revealed to her mother that "the voices" told her to. I happen to know this girl's case worker and I asked the woman how "Jen" is doing, but she couldn't tell me because I'm not technically involved with her recovery plan. The weekend at my house was a trial but when the mother picked her up, mom mentioned she thought the girl needs to be institutionalized. OP, food stamps and medicaid certainly are forms of welfare. And these days, more people use them then ever before. It is nothing to be ashamed of and I wish you well in finding a capable doctor who understands there is nothing wrong in using the system as it was set up to be used. In my city there are few doctors who will accept medicaid so there is is very little choice in medical care--we have to take what we can get. And yes, I've traveled to see a specialist and even dentists rather than go to the clinic when I was on medicaid. Now my job provides me excellent insurance which pays for most things I need, but the co-payments have been killing my budget.

I've supported Myself and My kids with no insurance. I worked My ass off and I paid. I never pushed Myself off or let anyone else EVER pay a fucking medical bill. I worked My ass off and I paid!!! Even when I could only send ten bucks a month. Awww. No. You're "entitled" right? You and your "daddy" won't do that. Just keep taking the public dole and bitch about how it's not welfare.

FR I would have fired the bitch because that was not professional conduct. I don't care that much that someone was insulted. Face it, people fuck with each other all the time, and I don't mean in a good way. But if I were the boss she might get one second chance, maybe. If it ever happened again she would be outta there. When I am at work I see people and sometimes talk to them and I can't believe how fucking stupid they are. I don't respect them, except as beings on this planet. Nothing more and you know I confounded a shrink on this when I was about eight years old. I said "Even a newborn baby deserves respect". Oh she loved that, I am so sane and so good. I was labelled perfect and as such have had such a charmed life. Yeah right. I wasn't even ten fucking years old, and what this "professional" didn't realize was that I was saying that I gave her, nor my teachers any more respect than that. There were exceptions though. Some teachers were good and actually taught. This horse drank from many waters due to the good, few and respected teachers I had in life. Fuck the rest of them. But now, in the land of inopportunity it is time to take some of this wealth back, that we have given to the banks and the government so freely. My generousity is gone when it comes to these people. My tax dollars ae not fixing the Fulton bridge, Chinese tax dollars are. I am done playing fucking games with these people. You threaten the people in this country into paying your fucking rent on shit they think they own and on labor they do that you think you own ? FUCK YOU. Shoot me. I mean it. Oh, and then you got the secondary threat of putting me in jail. Fuck you, I will meet a much better class of people there than I will in the courtroom. Go right ahead. I think I'll go get food stamps. Yup. And when I was sick as a dog they would give me nothing. I filed bankruoptcy on a bunch of shit, and they never found the problem with me physically. Imagine having over a hundred grand in available credit right now, with the housing prices so depressed. You could make enough to retire in about two years. Rent it until the prices go back up. Maybe I'll just play dumb, reapply for SS like I applied when I was REALLY sick. I'll just act crazy. Then I can sell my meds because I certainly won't take them. I don't even take aspirin. It's not the measely check, but then I got free health care. Fuck, one kidney transplant and you are waaaaay ahead of the game, but I wouldn't do that, for reasons noone would understand. I am going to die with all original equipment. So what, but it's my way. Get whatever you can. I mean that. If you make a million dollars a month selling crack, get food stamps. I'm pretty sure she would rather be healthy and work and not rely on the help - no matter what it is and what it's called - I can't imagine any payments would be good enough to make up for not being mobile, having to be on heavy pain medication and possibly ending up in a wheelchair. The issue is, that it was unprofessional of the receptionist to call her a welfare mom, equivalent of a bank employee to talk about an overdrawn account of a customer loudly so others can hear it. Uncalled for and only meant to make her feel bad - bad form for a receptionist and to be honest, if I would hear the receptionist at my doctor say something like that about another person, I would complain and change doctors, because I would be worried about my own information. I'm not on welfare but I would be worried that she might discuss confidential information with others and if I see a doctor, I want to rely on a certain amount of privacy and professionalism, the staff not being professional would tell me that it's not a high priority for the doctor. What kind of insurance somebody has is only needed for the billing, the receptionist has to enter the insurance code and not comment on it. Heaven knows that in any business there are clients who drive you crazy and you want to tell them to fuck off and take their business somewhere else, as they cause more trouble than they're worth, yet I would never say that or let any team member say it, they are treated with respect and polite, let them be unprofessional if they want to, they're clients but it reflects badly on them, there's a reason that we log every phone call and a summary of what was said along with every email, it all goes on a nice CRM server and people only see their own entries, now should a problem arise, I can access the entries of the whole team and rattle off to them what was said when and who said it and show them that we are not the problem - hard to argue with facts and hard to accuse us of not being professional. A team member just telling them "Oh you always cause problems, everybody here knows..." or "The accounting department also said you're payments were late" that would be unprofessional and a reason for a reprimand. Somebody in a position of authority can point that out in a professional manner, the equivalent of a doctor saying "Your type of insurance does not cover treatment ...." The thing is that any good business will not tolerate unprofessional conduct, a doctor's office is a business essentially, if he or she can't enforce professional conduct among the staff, it tells me all I need to know about which value it has for him and personally I would value my health too much.

maybe i do misunderstand what welare is.. LP would you take the help if yyou were on medications that could literally keep you from going blind or having seizures bad enough to cause heart attacks? The parts of my brain that swell without my Diamox caause that. It also costs about $600 a month since i am maxed out on the dose. 23 pills later and i can work 4 days a week 12 hour shifts. 4days a week at 10 hours is what Daddy works for minimum wage. we still are below poverty. How is it fair to say that any one of you works harder? i have busted my ass since 14 to keep a job even shitty ones no one else would work. Excuse my misunderstandings about what is and is not welfare. Either way the woman was a bitch. Plain and simple. Have a lovely day. i am off to fight traffic to work. FR kinda. According to Niel Young "welfare Mothers ain't the best Mothers". Tempted to say 'bullshit' but not quite. Some people, and of course I know some lol, learn to work the system. They never intend to work or anything. They wanna have more kids to get a bigger check, more beer stamps and/or a higher limit for their section 8 to get a nicer house. Color doesn't matter but the N word comes to mind. There is a BIG difference. There are three kinds of people who don't work. Those who can't, those who won't and those who would but there are no fucking jobs. Those who can't, well in a harsh society we would just let them starve, fukum. We don't want that. Well it certainly would trim down the labor pool and give our workers a better bargaining vantage but, that's not right either. But what about those who won't ? Well in some countries when they sell oil they use the money as taxes in a way, to fund things like healthcare, education and yes - EGADS - welfare of their people. In some places people actually get a check every month, fancy that. There is no means test, they have natural resources and that is considered public, so the public gets some of it. Now it's morning. I am going to get Chrisrockish on your ass...... If there are rich people in the country there is money in the country. Pretty fucking simple ain't it ? Fucking asshole sells pet rocks and makes millions, but you can't have none. People make millions prancing around in front of a camera and make millions and you can't have none. My first response on this thread was that the receptionist wasn't professional. The OP could have discussed what happened at reception with her physician (who I'm assuming is the receptionist's boss) and allow the physician to deal with his employee. What the OP is trying to do here is turn it into something that it wasn't. The receptionist didn't say something that was untrue, which is what the OP is attempting to make this look like. She can stomp her feet all that she likes and say that it's not welfare because it's not cash assistance, but it really does fall under the welfare umbrella. Yes, unprofessional as hell, but the receptionist didn't lie about the OP. Also, it's a real stretch to attempt to pull this off as a HIPPA violation. In the smallest way, it was her financial, not her medical information that was released. Something you should have done during your last open enrollment period, but didn't because, like a lot of married couples, you figured that one of you having medical insurance through the job was enough. You gambled and you lost. What would I do? I'd go take a look at the insurance coverage that is available through the temp agency. I'd fill out the forms to sign up. I'd prioritize. I'd kill the cable tv, the cell phone, and the net in favor of paying medical insurance. I'd hock everything that I thought might pull in a buck. I'd do whatever it took. Oh wait. I have.

Like I said earlier, just that fact that you were in the office is private information. I do agree that a lot of what falls under HIPAA regulations is trivial, and is probably over-policed by healthcare management because they're so afraid of HIPAA investigations and penalties. And, being the lawsuit-what-can-I-get-out-of-this society that we have become, mountains are definitely made out of molehills sometimes. But it is what it is in the healthcare field, and medical corporations run scared of HIPAA, for the most part because of the potential financial severity of the possible repercussions, and they do everything they can to protect themselves.

I am here to tell you that MANY COMPANIES DO NOT HAVE AN INSURANCE PLAN. It would be nice if they did, and that folks could afford it, but sometimes there just isn't any. I have always had to pay for my own health care coverage. I won't say the numbers, they frighten even me.
