Yep I am also a member on FL, but can't seem to find my way around there,

I already do have 1 friend *hazabiggrinnow* and well, as I do not seem to be participating in any discussion, I'm not perved either.

I opened an account there around the same time I joined here, I just never liked the place, the interface is cludgy. It's clumsy and non-intuitive. I prefer the layout here, everything is laid out in one nice convenient page.

I don't think I've ever made a post there, I go there maybe once a year or so, just to see if it's changed....it hasn't.

~fast reply~

I guess I'm the odd one again...I like Fet. I don't have a problem with the black background anymore (I did at first, mainly because I wasn't accoustomed to it), I enjoy the variety of groups/topics available and I like the options given for orientation/gender/relationship.
I've been able to connect with way more local folks than what I've found on CM and the ability to find local (meaning outside of large metro areas) events is fantastic.

As for the general tone/feel of the various groups...maybe I've been lucky in that I've avoided most of the drama-filled ones people mention. I find CM to be much more childish/dramatic. Both sites have a clique-ish feel to their groups/forums, but that's life. I've posted less on Fet, but I find the topics much more interesting to read.

Profile-wise, CollarMe is a dating site where as I find Fet to be more of a discussion site and I have my profile set up accordingly.

You have the whinners/flakes/trolls on both sites...but again, that's life.

I agree with those who say comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges.

*ETA...I do love the edit button here, though!

LOL, I might sound like one of the few real Fet refugees; I run here from there.  So okay, I do keep going back when I get bored, but everything over there drives me CRAZY.

I cannot find ANYTHING.  If I find something one day and am enjoying reading it, the next day it went poof into Never Never Land, as in...I am never, never gonna find it.

Also, I cannot change my relationship status.  I tried for over an hour a few days ago.  If anyone tells me to click on my name at the upper right I will go aaargh and cross my eyes cuz it does not work.  The screen blinks, that is all.

At least I can find the munch group I belong to, though I have not actually gone to one yet.  It is quite a long drive complete with $12 in tolls and I cannot go when my bills are high.  I am settling in with a new sub right now (yessss, boyfriend material as well) and would rather miss a few before we start going there together.  I should hang out with the group at Fet, and maybe get to know some of the people.  If not for that group, there is really no reason for me to go to Fet.  I like the thought of reading and being able to get a feel for some of the other members.

I have brought some people from Fet over to CM, lol, and the last fem sub was swamped with male from guys.  The sheer volume really surprised her.    Even warning someone cannot fully prepare them for the deluge when one is new here and female.

Fet is my go to place for the local munch and discussion group. It's great having a site that  provides that info at a glance.

To me that's the major advantage of Fet. I belong to many discussion groups but participate in very few, mainly b/c it takes too long to find an active conversation. CM Chat is entertainment for me (not that I don't enjoy some of the people, I do), but it's break time or de-stress time or wait for a phone call time. It's something I do when I'm not busy with something else, which means I don't have hours to look for an active discussion.

I like CM Chat b/c I can flash in, see if there are active topics I want to participate in, make a post, flash back out and return to work, and then next time I need a break, see how that thread is doing. I use it as a good counterbalance to my busy day, and I just can't do that with Fet.

I know it's my own fault, since I have never really taken the time to find groups I like, but in all seriousness, I am probably never going to spend the hours needed to do that.

While that's technically true if you think of the sites as standalone, I've found that using Fet in conjunction with RL folks works well.  As an example, I met a young lady at a munch a year ago.  She was attractive, fun to be around, intelligent - everything I wanted.  I got her Fet name, which is much easier than asking for a phone number.  When I checked out her Fet profile, I saw that she was heavily into needle and blood play, which are hard limits of mine, and suspension bondage, which I am not skilled enough for.

I have found that Fet profiles convey more about people than cm profiles do, and permit me to make decisions more quickly.  As another example, there is a local submissive who has a very strong little side to her, which is implicit in the Fet groups she belongs to and some pics with a teddy bear, but was not easy to detect in her cm profile.

This is true. I had an old friend from CM connect with me on Fet and he mentioned he was surprised by some of the groups I belonged to mainly because they weren't part of the impression given on my CM profile, past or present.

One other thing I find as a pro on the Fet side is the privacy factor. When I google my screen name, nothing from Fet comes up. I can't say the same for CM or CollarChat.

FL is a plan B  for me.

I dont care for how disorganized it is... you can post and it be WEEKS before a reply comes in.   The black background bites the big one!   I am over 40 and font is important to me.   If CM is down- I would go there- but I dont bother to check in over there any more.    I am not mad at anyone-  just prefer to post where I can follow the conversation.

As to people with bad attitudes- that is ALL message boards.

The 2 sites cant really be compared.   The format is simpler here... and readable.  So the SM part is not a factor to me.

... as an aside - I may be the only person who prefers the black with white lettering.  I find it soothing for my eyes.  :)  - the better to see you with, my dears!

There ARE pics like that!  There are pics of pretty much anything you can think of...too much for my preferences, actually.  I related to what myotherself said about people leaving breadcrumbs. I've actually removed a person or two from my friends list because my eyes just don't need to see some of the shit that's out there!

I don't like FL.  Too dark & not as "user friendly" as CM is.  If it's not moderated I'm sure that causes more issues that CM's moderated forums!

I went to FL once, and didn't like it, either. Too hard to navigate around, too dark, I don't like the "discussion board" format, I prefer the layout here, it's much easier and quicker to follow.

It's always good to have choices.
