I do, if you want to partake in the discussions, you have to be a member of the group discussions are going on in, and I like the discussions and talk on the groups quite often in case of some of them. Or used to, I'm not near as "chatty" as I used to be.

That's like saying there's no point in joining in discussion on collarme. even though it's true any one can post an you don't have to be a member of the area.

I love fetlife, but I do not like how you have to be a member to post in a group, or follow a thread. That can be good in some ways, but sometimes I just want to lurk and follow a thread, and not have every one and their momma know I am lurking in the group, as it'll show me a member of said group.

There needs to be more privacy options, like writing set to friends only, and groups set to friends only or stuff. Overall, like I said love it.

hmmm, i dont see being members of various groups as anything more than telling people what you are into, just like the Fetishes list of stuff at the bottom of the page... jmo

I'm pretty sure I saw your recipe for Braised Agua con Gas on Askachef. I haven't tried it yet, though.

Suze, what does he mean by "left"? Left what? And who are the "we"?

I think he means the people who left CollarMe and went to Fetlife.

But that doesn't make any sense at all.

Sure it does, Cheri, there's probably lots of people who left here and are on Fetlife. Didn't you see where somebody said there was a whole discussion group to bitch about CollarMe?

Yeah, but that doesn't make any difference, it still doesn't make any sense.

OK, why doesn't it make any sense?

Well, he left CollarMe right?

Yes, that's what he said, he said "we all left", so that means him too.

Then how come he's still here?

You have a point my dear, you have a point. A little ironic, non?

Just a little. And we're the blondes.

i actually prefer FL to here. i like that group owners and moderators are different everywhere you go, and you can just avoid groups with administration you don't agree with. i like that there are so many different groups you can join; so someone who IS asking for wank fodder can actually just go get it without either irritating other people or being belittled for it.

I agree, Lilly.  There are completely uncensored groups and groups specific to a particular genre.  There are groups I've joined, only to find I just didn't relate to, so I left, and found other groups that are right down my ally.  I've found, at least in the groups I've joined, those who get booted are those who haven't adhered to the group rules after several attempts at requesting they do.  One of the groups I'm in was started awhile back by an M/s couple who just wanted their own little place to talk openly to friends about M/s relationships.  It grew and grew and grew, but they keep the rules/atmosphere as it was in the beginning - since it's their group that people are wanting to join.  Those who don't abide by what they originally created and enjoy the group for are asked to turn it around, and if they don't, they're removed.  Meanwhile, the group keeps growing (over 20,000 members now), so they're apparently attracting a lot of people who find that appealing.  Those who don't have branched off with their own groups, so it's all good.

I found a group I didn't like at all a couple of years ago, so I left it.  They've changed things around and now it's a great group - I rejoined last year.

I just like that there's so much variety there, and there are groups which talk about things that would get blasted by the majority out of CM.  To me, CM is a "group" and FL has a bunch of other groups.  I like seeing the various takes on things - CM gives one aspect of insight but the overall belief systems are not the end all, be all.  Same with the individual FL groups.  Same with the offline groups.  I enjoy seeing all the differences.

And I like that you can see where your friends have posted and follow them there. It's how I've discovered other cool groups.

I have had shit luck in searching for groups that I might be interested in.

apparently, you have to be specific: i.e. "chicks that like being choked to the point of almost passing out" as opposed to "choking"

(Not a for real search string, just an example of the specific wording that I have found necessary to find groups I MIGHT be interested in)

Well you didn't specify turning blue while choking....

Actually, I didn't do any searches.  I added friends I knew from here and springboarded off of them.  Then made new friends in those groups and checked out the groups THEY are on, and so on.  Then I started scaling back and removing myself from groups that I didn't relate to, or that didn't hold my interest.  Sometimes people from a particular group will email me saying "Hey if that's how you think, you might like our group over here, too" and invite me to join.  Or I check out the friends lists of friends and see what groups they're on, and so on.  So it's like a "word of mouth" thing.  There are only a few groups I'm active in over there, though.  I don't have time to be active in all the groups I've joined, but I like having them on my list so I can check them out from time to time.

PS: For fun I just did a group search using "Choking" and 6 groups came up.

I have the same issue, work for a couple hours doing a search, try to find a viable convo, then keep checking back to see if peeps are responding. I don't appear to have the attention span for it.

If I need to work that hard, I'll make money at it.

Just where I am these days.

I've just remembered something.

It was on fetlife that I realised that NuevaVida's avatar was actually a really lovely picture of her with her arms up - not just an abstract thingummy.

LOL I remember that.  It may have been you, but someone emailed me thinking my avatar was a glass of wine.

GT:  Yeah, the "dead" look isn't very appealing - - although I'm sure there's a group for that, somewhere!

As for lots of work, I personally didn't feel I worked that hard at finding groups.  It all just kind of evolved like that.  But you gotta do what feels good and if it feels too much like work, forget it!  I didn't get involved in Fet right away for those very reasons, despite friends asking me to join.  Once I did and felt comfy there, it became no biggy.

Solving the white-on-black problem on FL:

1.) Get the Firefox browser - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/?from=getfirefox

2.) Get the GreaseMonkey Extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

3.) Either change colors manually (if you're familiar with CSS stylesheets, it's a snap; otherwise, read the docs or ask someone), OR google for "greasemonkey fetlife script" and try the links, examples:

"MakeFetGray" - https://userscripts.org/scripts/review/47380

"Better FetLife" userscript - http://userscripts.org/scripts/review/105867

As an alternative, try the Fetlife Color Invert script for Stylish - http://userstyles.org/styles/9180/fetlife-color-invert

I like CM. I came here sniffing after a friend of mine died and it led me here. I liked some of the posters, very entertaining and then one day I joined in on the boards.

domi asked me to hop over to Fet and I tried it but I didnt really fit in. The first time I posted some very smart girls jumped up my ass and that is the sort of vibe I rec'd over there. I loathe the whole adding friends to play thing. It rubs me the wrong way. I find it cruder in some ways. More vicious. They mad love each other so that is all good. I just grew weary of it for me.

The way the website is I find hard to navigate. It feels like being stuck in a dark hallway with trillions of doors. I got into it for awhile, joined cooking and knitting groups but I guess I am not that smart, clever, dog eat dog. It felt a bit like being on a tipping and listing ship. I had fun sometimes. I like some of the formatting.

I dont really miss the people who left, not sure who they all are. Domi and Jeff is about all I know and they still hang out here a bit so I dont feel a big hole or anything. I dont post a ton, I miss lots of what transpires and I dont mind.

This place will always be special to me even when I find it kind of lame

Yeah, specificity is a necessity.
""chicks that like being choked to the point of almost passing out while getting their rectums dilated to the size of basketballs by being double-fisted wearing gas masks filled with poppers" would probably be a good search term. Too bad chicks are so fucking health-conscious these days. They want to be sipping chamomile tea whilst getting creamed.
