Oh man, I totally missed that - would have loved to see the Rachel Ray show. I'll have to look for a rerun.

He was brilliant in Mary Poppins.  That man has so much talent, it's amazing.

Right now its CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM.

DeviantlyD -> RE: fav comedies (8/6/2011 9:54:46 PM)

Isn't this more of a "Polls and Other Random Snippets" kind of thread? I mean....people are mostly just providing a list of things. The topic doesn't lend itself to an actual discussion. I've found that with a lot of the OP's threads, that they are more of a "Polls and Other Random Snippets" sort, since there is minimal discussion going on.

Kaliko -> RE: fav comedies (8/6/2011 10:10:44 PM)

Let's take a poll to decide.

I cant believe it took almost 3 full pages to get a mention. Nothing (non-animated) ever has been close to CYE, and nothing animated has ever been close to SouthPark.

And whoever mentioned "House" as a comedy needs a good belly laugh.

Okay, this list might be a bit long, and I don't apologise for it, but I'll probably still miss out a lot, anyway:
The Young Ones
Porridge
Open All Hours
All Monty Python stuff
Blackadder
Bottom
The New Statesman
Spitting Image
The Dave Allen Show
Benny Hill
George and Mildred
Only Fools and Horses
Frasier
Cheers
Family Ties
Spin City
The Likely Lads
Big Bang Theory
The IT Crowd
Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em
Not The Nine O'Clock News
Alas, Smith & Jones
French and Saunders
The Comic Strip Presents... (most of them, anyway)
Ripping Yarns
To The Manor Born
Bread
Keeping Up Appearances
Are You Being Served?
Dad's Army
Steptoe and Son
Bless This House
Red Dwarf
Touch Me, I'm Karen Taylor

Right, I think that should do for now, but I'm sure I'll have forgotten some of them. [:)]

Good to see someone mentioned Some Mothers. I have a few theories but I still don't quite get what is wrong with Frank...

Surely Seinfeld is at least as good as Curb Your Enthusiasm? A match IMO for South Park would be Ren and Stimpy at its darkest, and perhaps the anarchic Bevis and Butthead.

I thought House was a comedy for nothing more than Hugh Laurie's American accent. I wonder do any yanks actually think it is realistic?

DavidLee44UK -> RE: fav comedies (8/7/2011 1:41:28 PM)

At least house could say things

Hugh Laurie as Prince Regent couldn't

I also thought House mad a good comedy programme.

Anaxagoras -> RE: fav comedies (8/7/2011 2:57:59 PM)

I don't think anyone was better than Huge Laurie as Wooster in "Jeeves and Wooster". He also pretty much made the film "Girl from Rio" work IMHO. His music career I would have to pass on though! [8D]
