Yes, the repubs much more than the dems tend to side with the investor class and have done and are doing, their bidding. Huge deficits handed to Obama they and that 'forced' him to continue the 'temporary' tax cuts was the big clue.

It wont play at all. The "error" is no more than different assumptions on the economy. Geithner has no cards to play. Ive negotiated with Moody's on one of their ratings methodologies on behalf of a client that is clearly wrong. Doesnt matter, they still use it. There WILL be major cuts in November or the impact of a downgrade will become real.

theres for instance a particularly scathing part in the report about an unwillingness to raise taxes. you don't see this. the reason you got downgraded is not even that republicans and democrats couldn't agree, its because the american people are infants and have the infantile politics they deserve.

Status: offline 		I've wondered why no one has examined the role of the rating agencies in all of this. They made a big mess of things in the GFC and subprime crisis (remember who gave gold plated ratings to all those valueless sub prime mortgages?). Who are these people? Why do people pay such attention to them?

Someone at the Nation magazine has taken a close look and the results are very interesting. You can check it out here.

According to the article, S & P might have some reasons of its own for downgrading the US's credit rating.
