Well, Hannah right on this thread for one. Some of the analysis in the media. Some common sense, and knowledge of the process. The fact that police are tapping into the blackberry records and network as well.

One last time. They are being used. They are not the danger, they are just the weapon.

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 3:54:09 PM)

Because that would piss off everybody and shut down the whole country.

For the last time, they are using the riots to load up cars with stolen goods. Who is using them? The conspiracy theory is wearing a bit thin, there was no fucking protest here, just a bit of pillage and plunder, mainly plunder. I guess it's a clever masterplan than the shops with technical goods, jewelers and luxury good shops are looted, political cause?

I wasn't kidding when I was talking about the general American aversion to news sources as compared to the rest of the world - that wasn't a dig, it was a factual statement. In other countries people keep an eye on the news. Even underprivileged people.

Again, whatever.  I think most Americans (even, gasp, underprivileged ones) watch and read plenty of news sources.  I think they just don't care that much what happens in other countries.

so? you dont think rioting for several days has already pretty much done that?

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 3:58:40 PM)

You've never learned revolutionary theory have you?

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:01:32 PM)

At the moment, everybody is mad at the "yobs and trackie bottoms, thugs, and chavs". This is in the government's interest, and in the provocateur's interest as well.
If the Government shuts the whole country down, then people will be pissed off at the government.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:01:36 PM)

Jesus, Arpig.  You manage to be a boar, a boor and a bore.  How do you do it?  You are like the trifecta of assholes.

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:02:40 PM)

I learned from you.

Who's talking about other countries? You seem to think that people in the UK don't know what happens in their own country. I wasn't suggesting people in the US ought to know who Duggan is. Again, reading comprehension.

I used to have some statistics on newspaper subscriptions per capita in different countries, though I've no idea where I found them or where I'd have saved them. The US was right down low for the developed world.

There's no reason to shut the whole country down, it looks very much like organized crime is behind it, getting the chavs to riot a bit by telling them there is free stuff, so they make a lot of noise there, cops are busy and the organized criminals loot the more expensive shops. I expect there will be bargains on eBay...

well if i were the govt that is what i would do and i wouldnt give a shit cuz doing that might just save some lives..

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:06:33 PM)

First it's just hooligans, now it's organized crime? Whatever, believe whatever you want. It's your country, flush it down the tubes if you want.

frazzle -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:08:29 PM)

No i dont struggle with logical progression, maybe others do!!!

If it hadnt been for criminals deciding to interfere with a peaceful march, noone outside of london would know about some dead gangster in Tottenham. It wasnt on the national news and certainly wasnt on local broadcasts anywhere else.

So you are wrong in thinking everyone was aware. Try watchng the news, this is gangs of morons communicating on mobile phones, working out which areas have the least police and the best stores to rob.

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 4:09:17 PM)

At this point tj, lives aren't really in danger on a scale that the government cares about. They have flooded the streets with cops and order has been mostly enforced. There is, according to the media, very little going on tonight in comparison.

They seem to be doing things about right. The issue isn't really how to put down the riots themselves, they know how to do that and they are doing ti pretty much by the book. The issue is how to prevent the next ones.

Of course nobody outside of London would have heard of him if it hadn't been for the spiralling protests, but the fact is that they DID spiral, and as the protests spiralled into riots his death was reported right alongside them, which means that people know about it.
