this thread is the perfect example of why the world is fucked.
It's just a massive point scoring exercise.
Nothing ever gets done because no one will ever back down and admit that the other side/point of view might be right.
Huge egos that are not matched by intelligence or common sense.
I don't know all the answers but neither do any of you lot.
It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic

Oh you mean those of us that actually live in the country and aren't desperately trying to impress a foul mouthed moron.

And the important question is why they spiralled. But it's one nobody wants to address.

Ive addressed it on the other thread. Its no more than opportunistic criminality, mostly kids, many under 16.

This has nothing to do with deprivation, police brutality, spending cuts or anything else. It`s just wanton violence.

Which differs from Cameron's little clique smashing up restaurants when they were undergraduates how?

I'm not trying to impress anyone, you willfully stupid woman. I'm trying to get you to understand that there are issues that have caused a great deal of anger and discontent among the poor urban youth of your country, and that this has exploded into violence. I think instigated by political extremists, and LadyC thinks by organized crime. In the final analysis, it doesn't matter who instigated it, what matters is why the people were so ready to explode into violence.

Is that your solution? No attempt to deal with the underlying causes of the discontent?

i guess it depends on what the govt thinks the underlying cause was... if they think it was common theft under opportunistic circumstances then they will throw the fuckers in jail and keep them there. If the voting public thinks it was for some other cause, then maybe they will vote someone else in instead...

Moonie, I love you like a brother, but this class war shit is getting tiring.

If you really think a few Toffs smashing a restaurant and paying for the damage (as disgusting as that is) is the same as what has gone on this week, then there is no hope for you.

It's been suggested that it might possibly have something to do with the institutionalised racism in the Met, which led to an initially peaceful protest escalating into an orgy of aggro very quickly.
(Of course, that's just bleeding heart nonsense from liberals who don't think all of the west indians in London need rounding up and gassing...)

That's what I meant by dealing with the next one. So you recommend just arresting who you can, and sweeping it under the rug. is that right? Just pretend it never happened.

The only difference there is one of scale, surely?
(And, as you say, the social class of the ill mannered twats causing aggro.)

That and giving billions to the very richest while simultaneously yanking huge amounts away from the very poorest. That tends to annoy us poor folks you know. being treated as expendable and of no worth or value.

They mostly won't, and can't, I don't think. They've arrested a small fraction of those involved. A good proportion of those will get off because of lack of evidence.

On balance, if you were involved, and hurt someone; or broke, burned or nicked something; the chances are pretty comfortable that you'll have got away with it. If the police weren't up to dealing with the riots themselves, why would anyone assume they'd be up to dealing with matters after them, either?

since when have young people needed much of a reason to explode into violence? Mob mentality is a commanding force among the young. Mayhem is almost as fun as doing nothing.

A bottle of whiskey and a few beers is usually a good enough reason to burn down the world.

It does. And when you have little or no prospect of earning a decent wage, it also tensds to piss people off when you jack the cost of an education way out of reach at the same time.
