I was wondering, what would you be called if you were a powerful intellligent person who just so happend to share someone's kinks, you didn't need to belong to someone in a 24/7 D/s relationship?
You wouldn't be a slave or a submissive so what would you be?

Kaliko -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 8:48:17 PM)

I think that would still be a submissive - a bedroom submissive - or a bottom.

Or just kinky.

ETA - hey, wait a second. 24/7 submissives aren't intelligent or powerful?

ETA again - I'm tired. I might be feeling extra argumentative.

littlewonder -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 8:51:57 PM)

bottom, sub, fetishist, kinky sex lover?

I didn't mean they weren't powerful or intelligent, don't hit me I bruise easily.

Arpig -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 9:39:11 PM)

Why wouldn't you be a submissive?

peppermint -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 9:45:09 PM)

So, a submissive or slave can not be powerful or intelligent?  They must be weak and dumb?

Next question.....

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 9:48:17 PM)

your post is worded in such a way that it's going to be misconstrued as "submissives and slaves aren't powerful or intelligent; i need to differentiate myself from that, or look for someone who differentiates from that."
i mean, i get what you're saying, but just expect people to fly off the handle. =p communicating well is very important when all you have is the written word.

are you talking about someone who's just interested in kink/S&M/something else and not power exchange? just say you're kinky, a kinkster, a fetishist, whatever. and you can simply state that you're not interested in power exchange. if you're a receiving-end person, say you're a bottom. if you're a giving-end person, say you're a Top. Topping and bottoming aren't about power, they're just about scene roles.

Mouth4Mistress -> RE: The powerful sub? (8/8/2011 9:49:48 PM)

No, a submissive doesn't necessarily have to be weak or dumb. Admittedly, one sample does not a pattern make, but I'm extremely submissive (and kinky), yet I'm 6'3", 230 lbs, in good shape, can lift 200 lbs, and write professionally and design websites for a living. Just because I want to become someone's property *in* *the* *bedroom* doesn't mean a damn thing regarding the other aspects of my life.

My 2 cents.

1. Powerful, intelligent people can be subs.
2. Subs and slaves do not NEED to belong to someone.
3. 24/7 isn't for everyone.  I believe that 24/7 is M/s, not D/s.
4. Why wouldn't they be a slave or submissive?

I think I've found most of the fallacies.

1. Powerful, intelligent people can be subs.  Quite a lot of them are, it's a sexual preference
2. Subs and slaves do not NEED to belong to someone. Just like a vanilla person doesn't need to come as a family pack and be joined at the hip
3. 24/7 isn't for everyone.  I believe that 24/7 is M/s, not D/s. 24/7 without down time is torture for everybody involved or a wanking fantasy, people have lives and need to interact on more than a BDSM level to stay together
4. Why wouldn't they be a slave or submissive? If that floats their boat it's what they are going to be, some are not and they are just kinky or fetishists or bottoms or just themselves without a label

I think I've found most of the fallacies.

WHY could you NOT be a slave or a submissive?

It may come as a complete shock but I have yet to meet a slave or a submissive who was not extremely intelligent, very strong mentally and emotionally, and capable of carrying out various tasks without even thinking about them. What's more, not one of them NEEDED to belong to someone. In fact, it was their DESIRE to GIVE themselves into someone's safekeeping.

In my eyes, it takes enormous courage, intelligence, strength, and confidence to willingly hand the reins over to someone else with complete enthusiasm and joy.

I edited your post because you seem to be under the impression that intelligent, powerful people can't be submissives or slaves and they most certainly can be anything and everything they desire.. after all, they are intelligent and powerful!

If I were seeking a label to begin conversations, I'd use bottom for what you've presented (or top for the flip side). The label is only the beginning of the discussion process and really, it's just something that makes things easier cull out those who aren't even close to what you seek.

Sometimes you have to be brave, intelligent, strongwilled with a thick skin to ask a simple question on these forums without people jumping down your throat,I have said already that i don't believe subs to be stupid or weak, which part of that is causing problems?

I wonder what would happen if you didn't spend all your time picking holes in everything anyone says?

It is HOW you phrase your questions......you appear to be implying that all subs are etc.....

Here is an offer for you. Before you make another post, cmail me with it the way you intend to write it. I'll rewrite so it does not carry the "flavor" you do not seem to realize your posts present.

Other posters can only respond to what they perceive you have written. While in your mind it may not appear to say how others are taking your words, it is not one poster but many who are perceiving them this way.

Therefore you need to alter your writing in a manner that asks what you want without giving the wrong impression.

My offer is genuine, I'll coach you until you get a better handle on it. Cause hon, at this rate, you are going to be living in that silver suit.
