I just find cursewords to simply be crass, cheap and tacky. Sure they can be useful at times when one is extremely angry but when people need to use them between every other word it just reminds me of the hicks and hillbillies where I grew up whose favorite pasttime is shooting deer from the back of a pickup truck and watching Nascar and Heehaw.

It always amazes me that it is perfectly fine to taunt and make fun of this particular culture (and it is a culture with specific rules, rules of speech, etc.) while it would not be acceptable to say the same sorts of things about other cultures.  I used to say that to some African American people I worked with - they would say this kind of rubbish, and I would remind them, "I don't make fun of your culture, kindly don't make fun of mine."  And, yes, I meant it.  I may be the opposite of what people think of when they think of "redneck" types of folks, but from that same culture sprang some very decent and good people with standards and ethics that some "beautiful" people wouldn't dream of. Let's not lump people together, ok?

As to the question - Aylee has it right.  It evokes a certain response in people.  "Motherfucker" is not about fucking A mother, it is about incest.  Fucking YOUR mother.  Cocksucker isn't about women giving men blow jobs, it is about quesitoning a man's masculinity.  G*ddamn is about taking the Lord's name in vain - against deep religious beliefs.  So many of the ways we insult people are based on sexuality because of our own historical discomfort with sexuality.

Personally, I think mouthbreather is a mighty fine insult.  But what do I know?  I'm some redneck hillbilly from Nowhere, USA.

As to the term "doughnut hole" - one needn't be a NASA scientist to know that you are speaking of people who are nothing.  You are saying that one doesn't exist outside the realm of something else.  How deeply insulting can one be?

In AA it is an oft-used metaphor.  People have had their lives surrounded by alcohol, and now they've removed it.  Are they merely a doughnut hole?  Do they not exist without something around them?  How will they create their lives, step by step without this outer support?

My own personal insults here... I've been found out.  When I write "good luck" it's something of a "... you're gonna need it."

Curses bring down the wrath of otherwise invisible entities defined by concepts and ideology to do bad things.

So the words are a precursor to imminent doom. (DOOM DOOM DOOM!)

It's all in how you take it.

"You're a bastard!"

Then we got goddamn. Now I can't motherfucking prove it, but I'll bet that some cocksucking Atheists out there use the term goddamn. Who the fuck are they talking about ?

And, someone in here must be an English teacher, in the previous sentence, what is the term for the words "the fuck" contained therein ? They're in quotes now because I really didn't put them in this sentence, even though I did.

T^T

The terms for "the fuck" in that sentence would be an article(the) and adjective(fuck) because fuck is referring to who in that particular sentence. At least I believe that's what it should be.

Grandma was the first and formost cusser of the county, and in front of us kids whe we were little, but we were told YOU DON'T USE THIS LANGUAGE, THIS IS ADULT LANGUAGE. Well when us boys got alone then........... But in school and shit we knew not to use it. I dropped out without it and a bunch of my cousains graduated with it. Fucked if I care.

Grampa was half deaf and took me in the basement. There we learned about mechanics and electronics, and how the two are really the same. This could not have happened without him. I could've learned both, but not how those two, as well as ALL sciences are intertwined.

You have no fucking idea. Cop an attitude, know what, I don't care. You think because your education is newer it is better ? Go on with your bad ass self. But remember this, what used to work, WORKED. What looks like it works now, well you takea you  chances-a........

You ain't playin with kids here, AND NEITHER ARE THEY !.  That is one thing you can take to the fucking bank, SO TO SPEAK. I mean that used to be a good saying but we really can't use it anymore. That's not my fault.; What was the function of a bank ? They failed. That's it. How much more ficking information could you possibly need ?

Get all your money OUT OF MONEY.

Or, rebut what I have said as you lose everything you have. Your call.

But love nothing.

Good luck with that, sunshine. I've been saying things like that on here for years and it just either gets defensive insults, further assholish behavior or ignored. I agree 1,000% though

where I grew up hillbillies and hicks are not a nice culture so when I talk about such people it''s meant to define those people where I grew up..no education, racist to the point they don't even try to hide it, to them the "n" word is everyday vernacular and they don't understand why there's a problem with it, they carry guns with them everywhere, stay drunk the majority of the time and extremists in their views of God but yet have never read a single word of the bible. Imo, it's not something to brag about being. Where I grew up there was never a single person in town who was not  white, catholic, straight and married or to be married. If you were anything other than that you were immediately railed out of town or your place burned to the ground. From what I understand it's still that way today. It's why I left when I was young and never looked back.

Hard working? Hardly? Good people? Not even close.

i don't give a fuck why people dislike them, i don't give a fuck if people dislike them. i don't dislike them. so somebody doesn't like hearing them? too fucking bad, that's their problem not mine. how you react to shit is your problem, not that of the rest of the world. don't go demanding the rest of the world play nice with you, you don't have that right. you're feelings don't fucking matter, they are your responsibility, not mine. you deal with them, don't require me to babysit your psyche because it's weak. toughen up.

It's not a matter of caring about someone's psyche or thinking they should toughen up.  When you are talking to people, do you want them to actually hear and understand your message? Or are you talking just for the personal sport of it?  You often say people aren't understanding you, yet you're unwilling to adapt your communication to fit your audience.  It's not anyone's job to hear and understand you; it's your job to make yourself understood.

Unless of course you don't care of you're understood, in which case, what's the point of even expressing your opinion?

I've always prided myself in being able to articulate my thoughts without
the need to raise my voice or to rely on cuss words to add emphasis.
It's like adding unneccessary accessories to my style of dress.

I did say the F word here once, but it was in verb form, so it didn't count.

See Grampa was a racist, but not an unfair one. He observed what he saw and drew his own conclusions. I knew him well and I don't think that he would ever deny a person of color an opportunity. He was smart enough to know that you had no choice of the skin into which you were borne, but he also knew where people came from and how they are, or were.

And Grandma was the world. She was the cussinest Woman in the world. She didn't give a fuck, if the cops came they got the same shit, if the Mormons came they got the same shit.

This foul mouth bitch, my Grandmother, you know what her Husband had done ? He had WALKED all the way across this country AND BACK. He found odd jobs and all that along the way.

We used to go down in the basement and start fucking around with the machines, grinders and shit. I got more than he ever had, but I still can't regrind a Phillips screwdriver, but he could. The dirty words from which I come are not a fucking joke. We know what they mean to us and we know what they mean to you all.

And some of you know that I am having financial problems, but I will still say :

TAKE YOUR PLACE.

My stature has NEVER been based on my capital on hand, EVER.

TAKE YOUR PLACE.

Oh, and next week is the dirtier words. Gonna be fun.

Fuck all if I know.

I grew up in a family that almost NEVER cussed. To ME cussing is creative. I especially love some of the gems Hannah has come up with that I never heard/read before. It makes me smile.

Something I find funny there are women that we have put on pedestals as being the be all, and end all, of feminine woman that, off camera, cussed like truck drivers. My fucking idol, Elizabeth Taylor has an amazing ability to turn the air blue.

Certainly there are times and places where I feel it needs to be.......curtailed. However I also have found in my 49 years, that it can be very effective in breaking down barriers. I actually used it very effectually when I was in the sales biz. All dressed up for work, I was a pretty intimidating and classy looking broad. That appearance created walls between myself and many of the people I had to work with. A well placed "well that is just bullshit!" said sincerely, went a very long way in relaxing the client and achieving my ultimate goal of a sale.

I also love to mix it up, just for fun. I adore some of the Brit curse words and take great glee in adding them to my repertoire. Anyone that says cursing is lazy or not creative just isn't a very creative and far too uptight individual. They should just stay away from me as I would seriously offend them on a very consistent basis.

My parents never cursed, not really. When my mother would get really upset, she would say, "Damnation." One time I was home from school, sick & in my bed. She was making pinch-pleat drapes for the spare bedroom. Apparently, it wasn't going very well, because I heard her yell, "GODDAMMIT!!!" I hid under the covers & pretended to be very tiny & invisible just in case that wrath might turn on me. Y'all think I'm skeery!!! I learned at her knee.

My mother never swore that I knew of. I mean NEVER!!. Then one day when I was 15, I came downstairs and stumbled across her trying to stack some Christmas balls for a table centrepiece. It wasn't working. She exclaimed in frustration: :"Oh just stay where I want you to, you motherfucking piece of shit."

I was shocked. I was staring at her, this was the first time I had ever, and I mean EVER, heard her say anything harsher then "Darn". She noticed me and smiled. She said something to me that has stuck with me all my life. It applies not only to "dirty words" but to almost everything in life. What she said was:

"Welcome to the real fucking world kid. Where you were this morning, I was perfect. Where we are now I'm not. Grow up fast Bob, because the world won't wait for you and it has no patience for stupid shits or romantic motherfuckers."

Lived a good life based on those words. My mum is wiser than you know.

You took my post way the hell too personally.  They were generic comments and questions I would ask of anybody who thought along the lines of what you posted.  I've made the same comments to other people who have said they don't care how people receive their words, yet people don't seem to understand them.  Any communications course will tell you if you want your message heard, to deliver it according to your audience.

Here, I'll try to make it simpler:

You:  I don't care what people think about the way I say things.

Me:  If they're not understanding you because of the way you say things, and you WANT them to understand, maybe you should consider how you say things so they DO understand you.

I'm always perplexed when people don't care about putting effort into being understood or heard.  It brings those questions up for me - do you not care if you're understood?  And if you don't care if you're understood, what's the point in expressing yourself? To reach a limited group instead of a bigger group?  They're valid questions.  Try not to be offended by them.  I ask them because communication is extremely important to me, so those questions pop right up in my mind when others don't care how they come across.  I wonder what their motivation is for knowingly communicating in a way others don't understand.  Don't think I'm attempting to pick on you; I'm not.  They're legitimate questions.
