So what is going on in Kansas for instance is not an abridgment of a woman's right to dominion over her own body.Attacking the right to choose from by legislating health centers out of existence may be an indirect attack on a woman's rights.....but when it is successful the effects are just as chilling .

Pray tell who are these "abortions for all" folks ? While I know scads and scads of pro-choice folks.....I have yet to meet one of those notorious "abortions for all" thumpers,nor those celebrated pro- abortion weirdos....I don't know where these folks hang out and I don't care,I don't think I would like them.Imagine forcing everyone to have an abortion....or thinking an abortion is a positive thing.What silly fucks!

More fucking assumptions, I dont like abortion, Ive never had one, and I dont advocate for abortion. CHOICE and rights over her own body, ya see the difference. dont put words in my fucking mouth

Those folks who go on and on about abortion being a "right" are referring to the right to choose.And they are correct,according to the Supreme Court it is a right....despite all the chipping away that those on the right side of the aisle have done. "Breeder" is a derogatory term...and I have seen numerous examples of it in action.Couples who believe that they should reproduce at an unprecedented rate,as if half a dozen simply isn't enough....these folks are breeders and they are ,IMO to be pitied. I was unaware the conversation had taken on an international flavor...perhaps you lost the thread of the discussion...it goes like this Lucy suggested that till we,here in the US stop chipping away at woman's rights we should perhaps hesitate to cast aspersions on other cultures....you stepped in and challenged that assessment.....see how it was an American political discussion...dealing with how The United States deals with female issues.....and than for no apparent reason you throw China into the hopper.Please try to stay more focused will you...it is hard keeping up with such a moving target [:)]

I tried to explain to another poster the fact that we have people wanting to legislate morality based on what their idea of morality is. You asked what I meant by the abortion for all camp. So I defined my usage. (Which has upset Lucy to no end, for some reason.) I used China as an example because you seemed to find the idea of forced abortion just silly. Well, it really happens. The conversation always had an international flavor dealing with women's rights in Islamic countries. BTW, 'Breeder' is also used to define any woman that has chosen to have a child. Number does not matter.

I tend to be far too much of an optimist, when it comes to the people rising up in revolt against tyranny and oppression. It ends badly all too often, but I wish them the very best. I think it needs to be something the people accomplish on their own, though. I read a news feature today, about an American whose parents came from Libya a decade before he was born, who dropped out of college and has joined the rebel forces "advancing" on Tripoli. I'll wish him well too, but I don't agree with my country taking sides in a civil war. ( I also have a wee bit of an attitude problem about the process, but this thread is probably already hopelessly hijacked. Not much point offering another derailment point.)

Getting back to the Middle East: We're all familiar and horrified by events in Syria at the moment. Assad seems intent on butchering his won citizens into submission. The world is queueing up to condemn him (rightly). Similar events are happening in Bahrain but that seems to have fallen off the radar of the Western media and our political leaders. Opposition people murdered, imprisoned, tortured, a Saudi-led occupation force, wild accusations of destabilisation by Iran coming from the beleaguered Bahraini royal family ..... and no one says a word. The 43-year old brutal Occupation of Palestine continues - and the US continues to arm shelter and finance the Occupiers and is planning to veto Palestinian right to self determination at the UN ..... Even the Israeli people seem to be fed up as the ongoing cost of the Occupation impacts on their standard of living. Libya seems slowly moving towards some kind of liberation from Ghaddafi though it remains to be seen whether the replacement will do any better ..... The Egyptian Revolution splutters along with conflicting signals emerging. Mubarak's trial can only be a positive development. The Military's foot-dragging on transition to full democracy is a worrying sign Is it a case of one step forwards and two steps backwards? The good news is the ongoing irrelevance of Al Quada in the Arab Spring. Voting with their feet, Arabs have chosen democratic solutions to theocratic ones. The bad news is the lack of support for this from the West. Our silence is not only a shame on all of us, but opening the door to a new round of dictators and autocrats in the region (as long as they're 'our' dictators and autocrats of course) The more things change .. the more they stay the same?
